OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/21/2026, Adams County deputies responded to the 6900 block of Dexter Street after reports of a domestic violence incident involving Jesse Ryan Klopfenstein. Deputies said Klopfenstein stabbed a woman during the incident before officers confronted him outside the residence. Police said Klopfenstein approached deputies while holding knives and ignored commands to drop them. Deputies opened fire, striking and killing him. The injured woman was transported to a hospital and survived. Family members later disputed portions of the police account and said Klopfenstein had been attempting to protect his fiancée and children during a mental health crisis. The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting.
