OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/20/2026, United States Park Police officers attempted to stop a stolen 2014 Honda Accord. The driver continued driving while Park Police pursued. During the pursuit, the Honda crossed into oncoming traffic on the William Howard Taft Bridge and collided head-on with a moped operated by 46-year-old Nolberto Armando Sanabria Meza, a Venezuelan immigrant who was working as a food delivery driver. Meza suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The fleeing vehicle continued after the collision before the occupants were apprehended.
Authorities initially charged the alleged driver with second-degree murder and charged two passengers in connection with the stolen vehicle. Those charges were later dismissed while prosecutors stated they needed additional evidence before making a final charging decision.
One month after the crash, Meza's family held a public news conference demanding accountability, the release of surveillance and police video, and answers about the pursuit. Their attorneys argued that the pursuit unnecessarily endangered the public and announced they were considering legal action against those responsible. Community members and fellow delivery drivers also held vigils in Meza's memory.
