On 06/23/2026, San Diego Police Department officers responded to an apartment building at 1612 Sixth Avenue after receiving a report that Josue Daniel White, 32, had threatened to kill his mother while armed with a knife. According to police, White barricaded himself inside a fourth-floor apartment by blocking the door with furniture. During the incident, police reported that he threw numerous objects, including a television, microwave, and other appliances, from a fourth-story window, striking a police vehicle. Officers also reported that White threw objects through the apartment doorway as they approached and that a fire started inside the apartment, which was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system. Officers entered the apartment, where an officer fired, striking White. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation, which will be reviewed by the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.
