OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/28/2026, Fairbanks Police Department officers responded to reports of a man with a firearm at 32 College Road in Fairbanks. Officers identified 31-year-old Brandon Michael Roberts, who also had an active probation warrant related to a burglary conviction. When officers attempted to contact him in a parking lot, Roberts ran from the scene on foot.
According to investigators, officers pursued Roberts on foot. Police stated that during the pursuit Roberts produced a handgun and pointed it toward officers. Officers opened fire, striking him. Officers rendered emergency medical aid until additional responders arrived, but Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is conducting the independent investigation into the shooting. Fairbanks Police later released a still image from officer body-worn camera footage that they said showed Roberts pointing a firearm toward an officer moments before the shooting. The officers involved have not been publicly identified.
