OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/19/2026, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of North Broadway after receiving reports of a man swinging a metal pipe. Officers located Immaniah Slemah, 37, in the area. According to police, Slemah advanced toward officers while holding the pipe. An officer fired, and police reported that Slemah then produced a butcher-style knife and again moved toward officers. The officer fired a second time, striking Slemah. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Several rounds struck nearby vehicles during the shooting, and elementary school students in the area were briefly instructed to take cover. The Force Investigation Unit is conducting the criminal investigation, and the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office will review the use of force.
