On 05/12/2026, Gary Police Department officers responded to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus after a report of a shooting inside the emergency department waiting area. According to investigators, Otis Brown was experiencing a mental health crisis and had displayed a handgun while making threats to shoot himself or others. A hospital security officer confronted Brown and fired multiple shots, striking him. Brown was transported for emergency treatment but later died from his injuries.
