On 05/27/2025, deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office initiated a vehicle stop. The driver fled at high speed. The pursuit ended in Lacombe when the vehicle crashed and the driver was killed.

Jose Hernandez, 91, was driving a silver Honda Accord and turned left in front of an LAPD cruiser responding to a domestic violence call with lights and sirens activated. The police vehicle struck Hernandez’s car at the intersection of Saticoy Street and Cleon Avenue in Sun Valley. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. Two officers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

On May 25, 2025, Oklahoma City Police initiated a pursuit of a driver near Northwest 23rd Street and Dewey Avenue for an alleged traffic violation. Oklahoma City PD officers continued to chase until the fleeing vehicle collided with a car driven by 22-year-old Kevin Gramajo at the intersection of Southeast 25th Street and Walker Avenue. Bystander Gramajo was transported to a hospital, where he died.

On 05/24/2025 at about 9:33 p.m., Warren police attempted a traffic stop on a black Chrysler 300 driving recklessly near Van Dyke and Miller. The vehicle refused to yield and a pursuit ensued. The chase ended at the intersection of 9 Mile Road & Van Dyke, when the Chrysler struck another car driven by a 71-year-old woman. She was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Occupants of a second struck vehicle sustained non-serious injuries. The fleeing driver abandoned the vehicle, attempted to flee on foot, but was immediately apprehended.

On May 22, 2025, around 7:55 p.m., Houston police used aerial surveillance to follow a stolen Dodge Charger from the 11200 block of South Gessner Road to West Bellfort Avenue. The vehicle struck a U-turning vehicle in the 7500 block of West Bellfort, ejecting the bystander driver, a man in his 40s, who died at the hospital. The fleeing vehicle then crashed into a light pole, causing a fire. While firefighters attempted to pull him from the vehicle, the man fatally shot himself. Sandoval’s family described him as a devoted husband and father. There were 2 fatalities.

Las Vegas police found a deceased person in a large container behind a business on the 100 block of North 3rd Street after reports of a foul odor on 05/21/2025. The investigation led to 63-year-old Joseph Del Rivo. Later that day, Utah Highway Patrol escalated a high-speed chase of Del Rivo on Interstate 70, reaching speeds of 140 mph. After spike strips were deployed, he attempted to evade a second set, lost control, and was ejected during a rollover crash. He died at the scene. The deceased person found in the container was identified as Matthew Kelemen, 56, a freelance reporter who wrote for Las Vegas magazine who had been Del Rivo’s roommate.

On May 17, 2025, at approximately 1:45 a.m., a Grand Prairie police officer attempted to stop a red Chevrolet Camaro with expired registration on East Main Street. Police escalated a high-speed chase reaching speeds up to 120 mph into Dallas. As Arevalo exited I-30 at South Hampton Road, he collided with a disabled Honda Accord. The driver of the Accord, 25-year-old Asiana Gray, was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

On May 16, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a San Diego Police Department officer attempted to stop a gray Mercedes-Benz C230 near 100 29th Street. The 52-year-old male driver failed to yield, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle proceeded north on 32nd Street and attempted a right turn onto eastbound J Street, where it lost control and collided with a retaining wall at the northeast corner of the intersection. The driver sustained a fractured femur and was transported to a local hospital. The front-seat passenger, a 52-year-old male, was also taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The SDPD’s Traffic Division is investigating the incident, and driving under the influence is suspected as a contributing factor.

On 05/15/2025, deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop on Sheraton Drive. During the stop, the driver of the vehicle did not stop. Deputies escalated a high-speed chase and alleged that they lost sight of the vehicle and “called off the chase.” Moments later, the vehicle that was still fleeing ran a traffic light at the intersection of Sheraton Drive and Old Jackson Highway and collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle caught fire upon impact.
Deputies and emergency services responded to the scene, extracting occupants from the burning vehicle. Jaquavious Baptiste, a 16-year-old front-seat passenger from Elko, South Carolina, was transported to Wellstar MCG, where he was pronounced dead at 9:23 p.m. Other passengers sustained injuries and were treated at a local hospital.

On May 11, 2025, Mansfield Police officers identified a vehicle with a stolen license plate entering the city on FM 917. The vehicle, occupied by a driver and a front-seat passenger, fled from officers and entered U.S. 287 southbound. The vehicle continued to evade officers and entered the city of Midlothian. At approximately the 4000 block of West U.S. 287, the vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes before colliding with another vehicle. The driver was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. The front-seat passenger was transported by CareFlite to Methodist Central Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. All occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was confirmed stolen from the city of Grand Prairie.

On May 7, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., a deputy from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a 2014 Kia Optima driven by 36-year-old Isaiah Thomas of Thibodaux, who was wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation. Thomas drove northbound on Louisiana Highway 308 at a high rate of speed. Police escalated a pursuit. The deputy allegedly called off the chase; however, Thomas attempted to pass a northbound 2024 Nissan Frontier in a marked no-passing zone and collided head-on with a southbound 2021 Honda Accord. The Kia then sideswiped the Nissan and a southbound 2023 Ford F-150. Thomas, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site. All other drivers involved were properly restrained and sustained either minor injuries or were uninjured. Standard blood toxicology samples were collected from Thomas for analysis. All other drivers involved voluntarily submitted breath or blood toxicology samples for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Morehouse, 38, of Warrensburg, did not stop. Police chased the motorcycle but claimed they had called off the chase near Lafayette Street, however, Glens Falls police observed the motorcycle crash on Bacon Street near Glen Street moments later. Morehouse died at the scene. His passenger, Suzie J. Etu, 38, of South Glens Falls, was taken to Glens Falls Hospital where she later died.

On May 9, 2025, just before 11:00 p.m., ALEA troopers say 44-year-old Willie T. Wills of Moundville attempted to evade a Brent Police Department traffic stop on Alabama Highway 5 near mile marker 84, approximately two miles south of Brent. Wills’ 2024 Dodge Hornet collided head-on with a 2019 GMC Acadia driven by a 41-year-old Brent man, Jason G. Corley. Wills, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acadia and two juvenile passengers sustained injuries and were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa and local hospitals. Multiple agencies assisted the response, including Brent and Centreville fire departments, Brierfield Rescue, and local EMS. The crash remains under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.

On May 2, 2025, Ventura County Sheriff's deputies responded to a grand theft report at a Target store in Camarillo. The man, identified as 26-year-old Matyes Getachew, fled the scene in a black Honda SUV. Deputies initiated a pursuit that continued through Thousand Oaks and into Simi Valley. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over the chase on the 118 Freeway at Balboa Boulevard in Granada Hills. The chase reached speeds exceeding 110 mph, weaving through traffic and ended when Getachew's vehicle collided with the rear of a dump truck on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Ocean View Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge. Getachew was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 11:18 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

Gregory Leschishin, a well-known local boxing coach, was out for his regular walk on Rogers Street when he was struck by a vehicle that had been chased into a crash by police. The driver carjacked another vehicle after jumping on the hood and screaming at the driver. Lowell Police were actively searching for him when he drove the stolen car onto the sidewalk and hit Leschishin. The impact caused life-threatening injuries, and Leschishin died four days later at Lahey Hospital.

Police chase the vehicle until it crossed county lines into Sneads, Florida, reaching speeds of 130 mph, and the occupants were seen throwing meth and other drugs from the vehicle. The vehicle lost control turning onto Old Spanish Trail, struck a manhole, flipped, and hit construction equipment. The 40-year-old male driver from Camilla, Georgia, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A 32-year-old male passenger was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.

Marina Vasconcelos, a 24-year-old doctoral student at the University of Delaware, was killed when Gordon Turner, 22, drove away at high speed from Newark Police in an overdue-for-return U-Haul van. As officers approached the van parked on East Main Street, Turner drove over a curb, hit a police vehicle, and sped away. Police claim that they did not chase but the crash reportedly occurred as part of a failed police traffic stop. Moments later, Turner lost control of the vehicle, striking Vasconcelos and seriously injuring another graduate student, before colliding with multiple parked cars and causing additional injuries. Turner was charged with second-degree murder and multiple other offenses, held on a $305,500 cash bond.

On April 28, 2025, at approximately 7:56 p.m., Jessica Sarah Vaux, a 32-year-old woman from St. Francis, Minnesota, was involved in a fatal crash during a police pursuit. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Vaux drove away from a traffic stop, was chased by police unti she rear-ended a 2022 International semi-truck on westbound Interstate 94 at mile marker 56 in Buse Township. Vaux died at the scene. The 26-year-old semi driver from St. Cloud was uninjured. Road conditions were reported as wet. The Clay County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the incident.

At approximately 12:09 a.m. on April 27, 2025, a Virginia State Police trooper observed a motorcycle traveling over 100 mph on eastbound I-66 near Nutley Street in Fairfax County. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist drove away. Police escalated a chase to unknown speeds and stated that the trooper called off the chase “due to safety reasons,” not otherwise specified. Shortly thereafter, the fleeing motorcycle crashed into rear passenger side of an SUV, caught on fire which the trooper and then responding firefighters extinguished. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the crash site. The SUV driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The incident remains under investigation.

Deputies from the Benzie County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on a stolen SUV linked to an assault complaint in Antrim County. The driver did not stop. Deputies escalated a westbound chase on M-115. Approximately 1.5 miles into the pursuit, at unknown speed, the SUV crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound van carrying six Charlevoix High School varsity golf team members and their coach. The fleeing driver was killed. All occupants of the van were injured and transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, with the coach airlifted via Aero-Med helicopter.
