Police attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Bo A. Johnson for reckless driving in Iowa County. The driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase into Dane County. Near mile marker 65 on U.S. Highway 18/151 in the Town of Blue Mounds, the vehicle crashed. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 03/14/2025, off-duty Washington State Patrol Trooper Sarah Clasen, intoxicated with a BAC of 0.17, struck and killed motorcyclist Jhoser Sanchez on State Route 410 near Bonney Lake in Pierce County. Authorities reported her blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit. The motorcyclist died at the scene. On September 5, 2025, she was criminally charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the fatal crash.

On 02/28/2025, Hyattsville Police officers attempted a traffic stop on East-West Highway for a vehicle infraction. The driver initially stopped but then drove away at speed, and the officer briefly followed before ending the pursuit. Moments later, the same vehicle drove onto the shoulder and struck Esmeralda Montoya-Perez, 33, who was standing near a bus stop. Police and medics responded; Montoya-Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later took the fleeing driver, identified as 23-year-old Warren Leonard of Washington, D.C., into custody nearby. Officers recovered a handgun with an extended magazine from Leonard’s vehicle. The Maryland Attorney General’s Office’s Independent Investigations Division reviewed the incident, including body-worn and dash camera footage. Montoya-Perez was a mother of two, and family members and community members publicly described her death and mourned her loss.

OOn the night of 02/28/2025, a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was traveling southbound on Blue Ridge Cutoff in Kansas City when officers encountered a vehicle driving northbound in the southbound lanes at a high rate of speed. Police said the northbound vehicle was going the wrong way on the divided roadway. The driver’s vehicle collided head-on with the patrol vehicle operated by the deputy. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The deputy was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was reported stable. Kansas City Police Department officers are investigating the incident.

On February 26, 2025, Pasco County deputies escalated to a chase of a 25-year-old man in Spring Hill. He drove away during an alleged drug investigation, and police chased him until he lost control of his vehicle on Mariner Boulevard near Lindsay Road in Spring Hill, Hernando County. He struck a curb, collided with a Ford Mustang, and hit a concrete retaining wall. The man was ejected from the vehicle and later died at the hospital. The Mustang driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

On 02/26/2025, Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of Fort Johnson Road and Silver Leaf Circle on James Island. The driver continued driving, and deputies escalated a pursuit. During the chase, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed near the intersection.
Joshua Richardson, 31, who was riding as a passenger in the fleeing vehicle, died from injuries sustained in the crash. On February 24, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Houston Police Department officers spotted a vehicle with a stolen license plate near Richmond Avenue and Unity Drive. On February 22, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred on U.S. Highway 84 near Cut-Off Road in Coushatta, Louisiana. The incident involved a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Deputy Asia Pikes of the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office, and a 2022 Nissan Rogue, driven by 70-year-old Ella Winn of Coushatta. Simultaneously, Winn was traveling eastbound and, for reasons still under investigation, made a left turn, resulting in a collision with the Tahoe. Winn, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputy Pikes sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.

On February 17, 2025, at approximately 10:48 p.m., a Pierce County deputy observed a Tesla traveling eastbound on 128th Street East in Puyallup at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The deputy initiated a pursuit without activating lights and sirens but soon lost sight of the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the deputy discovered the Tesla had veered off the road, crashed through a fence, struck three large trees, and caught fire in the backyard of a residence in the 7000 block of 128th Street East. The deputy attempted to rescue the 45-year-old male driver by breaking the driver's side window but was forced to retreat due to the intensifying flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were injured, and the fire was contained to the vehicle.

On 02/17/2025, at approximately 4:15 p.m., deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office pursued 41-year-old Shawn E. Threatt, who had multiple felony and parole warrants. The chase began in Harlem and continued along local roads before ending on Sawdust Road, where Threatt’s vehicle collided with a patrol car. He was transported to Doctors Hospital and pronounced dead. A deputy sustained minor injuries in the crash.

On 02/14/2025, at approximately 5:45 a.m., Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies were conducting speed enforcement near Bayshore Boulevard and Michigan Boulevard in Dunedin, Florida. Deputies attempted to pull over a red Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 41-year-old Michael Gaffney for speeding in the southbound lanes. Gaffney accelerated away while approximately three minutes later, multiple 911 calls reported a motorcycle crash near 1427 Bayshore Boulevard. Investigators determined that Gaffney lost control of his motorcycle while fleeing and collided with a guy wire attached to a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jenkins failed to stop, leading to a pursuit that continued onto Eufaula Avenue. The Barbour County Sheriff's Office took over the pursuit. Jenkins was traveling at an estimated speed of 130 mph when his 2006 Ford Fusion left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and burst into flames. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene. On February 13, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper attempted to stop a motorcyclist for speeding on Interstate 5 near Bow Hill. The rider, a 43-year-old male from Mount Vernon, failed to stop and exited the freeway at Bow Hill, then reentered I-5 southbound. The trooper discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns. Later, the motorcyclist was spotted again in Mount Vernon, and another traffic stop was attempted. The rider fled, entering I-5 at College Way, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. As the motorcyclist approached the Skagit River Bridge, he struck a part of the bridge, was ejected from the motorcycle, and was subsequently hit by an oncoming semi-truck. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The Skagit-Island Specialized Multi-Agency Response Team (SMART) is investigating the incident.

On February 12, 2025, 56-year-old Gerald Neal was fatally struck during a police pursuit in Orlando, Florida. The incident occurred on Indiana Street off Rio Grande Avenue when both the vehicle under pursuit and an unmarked Orlando Police Department truck driven by a detective hit Neal.

Officer Moulton was found to have negligently caused two previous crashes. No fatalities were reported in Detective Moulton's two prior on-duty vehicle crashes in 2019. In one incident, he was found 100% at fault for a head-on collision at the intersection of S. Westmoreland Drive and Michigan Street. The other driver sustained injuries and filed a civil lawsuit against the City of Orlando. In the second incident, Moulton crashed into a concrete barrier while responding to an emergency call. Both incidents resulted in verbal reprimands.

On February 10, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a Gwinnett County Police Department officer was driving east on Beaver Ruin Road near the I-85 interchange in Norcross, Georgia. During this time, 19-year-old Martinez Greenlee III reportedly began crossing the road. The officer's vehicle struck Greenlee. Greenlee was transported to a local hospital by Gwinnett Fire and EMS personnel but died from his injuries. On February 6, 2025, around 1:30 p.m., a Labette County Sheriff's deputy observed a tan Ford F-150, driven by 52-year-old John H. Jones, run a stop sign at 20000 and Wallace Road near Oswego, Kansas. Upon noticing the deputy, Jones attempted evasive maneuvers, including driving through a field, and then fled northbound on Wallace Road at speeds exceeding 100 mph. During the pursuit, Jones forced multiple motorists off the road and attempted to ram the deputy's vehicle. He failed to negotiate a curve near 22097 Wallace Road, resulting in a collision with a tree. Jones was transported to Labette Health, where he died from his injuries. Authorities later discovered that Jones was driving with a suspended license and had outstanding warrants in Montgomery and Neosho counties. He also had prior convictions for aggravated burglary, theft, criminal threat, obstruction, and multiple drug-related offenses.

On February 3, 2025, at approximately 6:07 p.m., 68-year-old Manuel Bonilla-Gomez was riding his bicycle southbound on Clinton Avenue in Norwalk, Connecticut. He reportedly entered the intersection with Connecticut Avenue (Route 1) and was struck by an unmarked police SUV driven by Detective Andrew Roncinske, who was traveling eastbound with a green light. Bonilla-Gomez was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Connecticut State Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.

On February 2, 2025, a woman entered a previously carjacked vehicle in the 6000 block of Oxon Hill Road. As officers from multiple departments attempted to stop her, she crashed the vehicle in a parking lot, exited, and attempted to cross I-495 on foot. She was then struck by two uninvolved vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.

On February 1, 2025, Lake Forest Park police chased a 16-year-old until the vehicle crashed and the driver died in Bothell, Washington. Additionally, two passengers were injured. Detectives say the car may have been involved in an eluding incident in King County with Lake Forest Park Police prior to the crash.

On 02/01/2025, a Columbia County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Interstate 90 near Portage. The driver continued driving and the pursuit reached the Highway 33 exit where the vehicle overturned. The rollover ejected two passengers and one was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger sustained critical injuries and the driver plus two additional passengers were hospitalized.
