On November 16, 2024, Banks County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a white Kia Optima for failing to maintain its lane on Interstate 85 Northbound near mile marker 149. The driver, later identified as 17-year-old Jalah Claitt from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, did not stop. Deputies initiated a pursuit that continued onto GA State Route 59 into Jackson County. On October 28, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police began pursuing 16-year-old Cortez McConer Jr. after he fled on foot following a traffic stop. On October 28, 2024, 43-year-old Mandy Lynn Buckwalter was fatally injured in a head-on collision at the intersection of 29th Street North and Wilderness in Wichita, Kansas. Wichita Police Department officers were tracking a stolen 2024 Ford Transit van with assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol’s (KHP) Air Support Unit.

Police pursued the vehicle with a helicopter and an unknown number of police vehicles following, until the fleeing vehicle collided with Buckwalter’s eastbound 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Buckwalter was pronounced deceased at the location.
