On 05/17/2024, a police pursuit involving the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and the Mississippi Highway Patrol resulted in a fatal crash near South Red Banks Road and Marianna Road in Byhalia, Mississippi. The police chased the fleeing vehicle until it crashed into the car carrying 71-year-old Rosie Jeffries and her husband, Robert Jeffries. Both were killed in the crash.

The chase was initiated for an allegedly stolen vehicle. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation, with findings to be reviewed by the Marshall County District Attorney's Office.

Phoenix Police responded to a domestic violence call at a residence near 16th Street and Southern Avenue on 05/17/2024. The individual, later identified as Jamarr Dwayne Young, 33, allegedly attempted to flee the scene by driving toward officers and striking a police vehicle. He continued driving, eventually striking a bicyclist who was crossing 16th Street, fatally injuring them. Young fled, and police initiated a pursuit, which was later called off due to his erratic driving. Young was eventually apprehended after crashing into a construction site and assaulting officers. He was arrested on 11 charges, including assault related to the initial domestic violence call.

On May 16, 2024, at approximately 12:39 a.m., Woodstock Police responded to a domestic incident in the 200 block of Douglas Street near Calhoun Street in Woodstock, Illinois. Upon arrival, officers learned that 25-year-old Fabian Velazquez had discharged a firearm inside the residence before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Officers spotted Velazquez's vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but he disregarded commands and accelerated southbound on Route 47 at a high rate of speed. Near the intersection of Route 47 and Route 176 in Lakewood, Velazquez lost control of his vehicle, which veered off the road, went airborne, and crashed onto Swanson Road. The vehicle rolled over during the crash. Velazquez was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Northwestern Hospital Huntley, where he died from his injuries. A gun matching the description of the one used in the initial incident was recovered at the crash scene. The McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team is investigating the incident.

On May 20, 2024, Baldwin County deputies responded to a false emergency call about an alleged emergency with a description of a vehicle to look for. The responding officer, Sgt. Reid White, was traveling on Kings Road when he spotted Louis Mazzola, 67, who was returning home from work. Sgt. White initiated a traffic stop, activating his lights and siren. Mazzola turned left onto Back in the Woods Way and White attempted to pass Mazzola’s vehicle on the left at high speed. White crashed into Mazzola’s vehicle, causing Mazzola to be ejected. Gravely injured, Mazzola later died from his injuries.

The incident was a result of the false 911 call and involved significant police activity by a number of participating officers, which escalated to the crash. White was placed on administrative leave while the Georgia State Patrol investigates the incident.
