On 07/23/2023, Columbus Division of Police officers attempted to stop a vehicle they believed had been stolen. The driver continued driving while police pursued. During the pursuit, the driver entered the parking lot of an apartment complex, where the vehicle struck 4-year-old Jarsi Hafini as he rode a tricycle.
Jarsi was transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital with critical injuries and died two days later. The driver fled on foot after the crash but was quickly apprehended by officers. He was subsequently charged in connection with the pursuit and Jarsi's death.
Jarsi's death prompted widespread mourning in the Columbus community. Family members remembered him as a joyful young boy whose life was cut short while playing outside his home.

On 07/23/2023, Seward Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle that they reported was being driven erratically on the Seward Highway. The driver continued driving while police pursued. Alaska State Troopers joined the pursuit as the vehicle traveled northbound on the highway.
During the pursuit, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed, ejecting both the driver and 58-year-old passenger Gregory Green. Green sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver survived with serious injuries and was later charged in connection with the pursuit and the fatal crash.
The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol investigated the collision.

On 06/29/2023, Bohdan Vetrov, a 57 year old commercial truck driver and father of seven dependent children, was killed on Interstate 5 in Lakewood, Washington, after Lakewood police initiated and continued a vehicle pursuit that ended in a catastrophic collision with his semi truck.
