On 07/17/2024, a Greensboro police officer observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way and attempted a traffic stop. The driver continued driving away at a high rate of speed, and police pursued. The fleeing vehicle reached speeds estimated at approximately 130 mph. At the intersection of East Cone Boulevard and North O. Henry Boulevard, the fleeing vehicle collided with a Greensboro police patrol vehicle responding to assist in the pursuit. The vehicle caught fire after the collision. Fourteen-year-old passenger Brandon Bowie Jr. died at the scene. Two other juvenile passengers, 14-year-old Kenyan Saxton-Reese and 15-year-old Derrion Legrand, also died. The driver and the pursuing officer were transported to hospitals with serious injuries.
Subsequent investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol determined the responding patrol vehicle was traveling approximately 76 mph in a 35 mph zone and that its emergency lights and siren were not activated when it entered the intersection. Former Greensboro Police Officer Melina Ashley Jensen resigned from the department and was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in connection with the crash.

On 08/03/2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies were responding to assist firefighters at River Bend RV Park in Falling Waters after firefighters reported that a large disturbance had gathered and requested law enforcement to expedite to the scene. Deputy Clark was responding westbound on King Street in a marked patrol SUV with emergency lights and siren activated when he entered the intersection of King Street and Illinois Avenue. Investigators determined that 51-year-old Peter Christensen, who had been stopped facing south at the intersection, drove into the intersection without yielding to the emergency vehicle. Deputy Clark's patrol SUV struck the driver's side of Christensen's Toyota Camry. Christensen died at the scene. Passenger Christopher Dodrill, 48, of Ridgeley, West Virginia, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Deputy Clark was treated and released. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department investigated the collision, reviewing witness statements, in-car camera footage, and other video evidence. On 08/02/2024 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Memphis Police Officer Demetrice Johnson and Officer Bobby Fields were traveling in a marked patrol vehicle while responding to an emergency call with emergency lights and siren activated. They were driving southbound on Danny Thomas Boulevard in downtown Memphis.
At the same time, 22-year-old Rantavious Johnson was driving northbound on Danny Thomas Boulevard. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Memphis police, Johnson's vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lanes and struck the police cruiser head-on near the intersection with North Dunlap Street. The impact caused catastrophic damage to both vehicles.
Emergency crews removed all three men from the wreckage and transported them to Regional One Health. Officer Demetrice Johnson and Rantavious Johnson both died from injuries sustained in the collision. Officer Bobby Fields survived with critical injuries and underwent extensive medical treatment.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation assumed responsibility for investigating the crash at the request of Shelby County District Attorney General Steve Mulroy because it involved a Memphis police vehicle. Investigators processed the crash scene, examined the vehicles and collected witness statements and physical evidence.
Memphis Police identified Officer Demetrice Johnson as a 34-year-old officer who had joined the department in May 2023. Johnson was responding to a priority call at the time of the collision.

Officers Michael E. Borgen, William L. Loayza, Brandan C. Stedfelt, and Darien J. Thomas were each charged with one count of official misconduct. Prosecutors alleged the pursuit violated department policy and that officers failed to stop and render aid after the fatal collision. All seven officers were subsequently terminated by the department while the criminal cases proceeded. Police were reluctant to answer questions, but the chase was reportedly done for someone having too dark window tint.

On 07/29/2024 at approximately 8:15 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a Hyundai that had been reported stolen. The driver, later identified as 36-year-old James William Toomey, continued driving while CHP officers pursued the vehicle through Sacramento County. During the pursuit, investigators reported the vehicle reached speeds exceeding 120 mph and traveled more than 15 miles before entering the Rancho Murieta area.
The pursuit ended at the intersection of Jackson Highway and Murieta Drive when Toomey's vehicle crossed into the intersection and broadsided a Rivian SUV occupied by three people. The Hyundai then struck a utility pole and burst into flames. Two CHP officers pulled Toomey and his female passenger from the burning vehicle. Both sustained critical injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Toomey died from his injuries the following morning. His female passenger survived with major injuries. The three occupants of the Rivian were transported to hospitals with moderate injuries.
The Sacramento County Coroner's Office identified the deceased driver as James William Toomey. CHP later identified the two pursuing officers who rescued the occupants from the burning Hyundai as Officers Brandon Rodgers and Jim Dann of the Amador Area office. Witnesses described the officers entering the burning vehicle despite heavy flames to remove both occupants.

On 07/29/2024 at approximately 12:00 a.m., Mentone Town Marshal Keaton Schopf attempted to stop a 2010 Chevrolet Impala for speeding on State Road 25 near Princeton Street in Mentone. The driver, 17-year-old Adam Charles McDaniels of Rochester, continued driving while police pursued southbound on State Road 25 from Kosciusko County into Fulton County.
Shortly after crossing State Road 110 near County Road 700 South, McDaniels' vehicle left the east side of the roadway and struck a tree. McDaniels was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts. A juvenile passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital for treatment.
The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the crash with assistance from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Akron Police Department, Rochester Police Department, Mentone Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff's Office, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office, and the Fulton County Coroner's Office.

On 07/29/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office received reports of a man driving erratically through Fernley, failing to stop at multiple stop signs, nearly striking pedestrians and other vehicles, and appearing intoxicated while purchasing additional alcohol at a gas station. Nevada State Police located the truck and attempted a traffic stop. The driver continued driving while police pursued, and Lyon County Sheriff's deputies later assumed the lead in the pursuit.
During the pursuit, deputies reported that the driver struck multiple vehicles, nearly hit several others, traveled at speeds exceeding 100 mph, and repeatedly rammed a sheriff's patrol vehicle. One collision disabled the patrol vehicle, but the truck continued eastbound on Newlands Drive toward Nevada Pacific Boulevard before leaving the paved roadway and continuing onto an unmaintained dirt road.
Deputies reduced their speed because of the hazardous terrain and observed the truck fishtail before rolling in a cloud of dust. When they reached the vehicle, it was on fire. Deputies pulled the driver from the burning truck and performed CPR until North Lyon County Fire Department personnel arrived. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
One Lyon County Sheriff's deputy was treated for minor injuries related to the collisions during the pursuit, and another deputy was evaluated after being exposed to biohazards while rescuing the driver from the burning vehicle.
The Nevada State Police investigated the pursuit and crash, while the Storey County Sheriff's Office conducted the coroner's investigation. As of the latest publicly available information, the driver's identity has not been released.

On 07/28/2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., off-duty Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Herpstreith and off-duty dispatcher Amy Hubble reported finding 18-year-old Jackson Kradle lying along Illinois Route 78 near Lowden Road outside Mount Carroll.
An autopsy determined Kradle died from blunt force trauma after being struck by a motor vehicle. During the Illinois State Police investigation, Kradle's DNA was recovered from the underside of Herpstreith's pickup truck. Investigators also obtained surveillance video showing Herpstreith washing the underside of his truck at a car wash shortly after leaving the scene. During a second interview with investigators, Herpstreith acknowledged he may have struck Kradle after initially stating he had swerved to avoid an object in the roadway.
In January 2025, a Carroll County coroner's inquest heard testimony from investigators, forensic experts, and witnesses. The jury determined that Kradle's manner of death was homicide. Herpstreith and Hubble, both of whom had resigned from the sheriff's office, invoked their Fifth Amendment rights during the inquest.
On 03/24/2025, former Deputy Matthew Herpstreith was charged with reckless homicide, reckless conduct, obstructing justice, attempted obstructing justice, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The criminal case remains pending.

On 07/28/2024, a San Antonio Police Department patrol vehicle responding to an unrelated emergency call collided with a motorcycle at the intersection of West Southcross Boulevard and Huron Street.
According to investigators, 21-year-old Jesus Ervey Pacheco Ceniceros was riding a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Huron Street as the traffic signal was changing. At the same time, a marked San Antonio Police Department patrol vehicle was traveling eastbound on West Southcross Boulevard while responding to a reported vehicle fire. The patrol vehicle and motorcycle collided in the intersection, ejecting Ceniceros from the motorcycle. The patrol vehicle then crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a second vehicle.
Ceniceros was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The police officer and the driver of the second vehicle were also hospitalized with injuries and later reported to be in stable condition.
