On 08/19/2021, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a burglary involving a firearm in Selawik, Alaska. Troopers later made contact with two people connected to the report. According to police statements, Douglas Brown Jr. was armed with a shotgun during the encounter. Trooper Joshua Rallo fired, killing Brown at the scene. The incident was reported as under investigation, and no troopers were charged.

On 06/25/2021, Alaska State Troopers observed a vehicle driving erratically on Airport Industrial Road in Fairbanks and initiated a traffic stop. The driver did not stop, and troopers escalated a pursuit. The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped and Dimitri Lanahan exited. Police reported that Lanahan raised and pointed an object toward a trooper. A trooper opened fire and shot Lanahan, killing him at the scene. Lanahan was 23 years old. After the shooting, authorities stated the object was a toy weapon described in reporting as a paintball gun. The investigation into the trooper shooting was reported as pending at the time of coverage.

On 05/26/2021, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report that a person had been shot on a boat in Holy Cross. Authorities identified Devyn Walker as the person suspected of shooting and killing 71-year-old Alden Gerald Walker Sr. Following the shooting, troopers reported that Walker barricaded himself inside a residence. Officers attempted to negotiate with him. According to troopers, Walker refused to surrender and fired a gun in the direction of law enforcement. At least one trooper then fired, shooting and killing Walker at the scene. No officers were charged, and no final prosecutorial outcome beyond the initial review was publicly reported.

On 03/13/2021, Alaska State Troopers responded to reports of a man armed with a shotgun demanding keys from residents at a home on Glenkerry Drive in Wasilla. The residents were able to leave the area, after which Douglas Stroble broke into the residence. Police said Stroble then went to a second home, where he threatened a woman and told her he intended to kill her children. Troopers arrived and attempted to communicate with Stroble inside the residence. After negotiations failed, officers entered the home and shot Stroble, killing him at the scene. The officers were cleared.

On 03/06/2021, Alaska State Troopers and Fairbanks Airport Police responded to a disturbance at the La Quinta Inn in Fairbanks, where hotel staff reported that Jesse Peter was causing a disturbance and firing a handgun inside the building. When officers located Peter on Dale Road shortly thereafter, he ignored their commands, was seen reloading his firearm, and allegedly pointed the gun at law enforcement. Multiple officers fired their weapons, fatally striking Peter and pronouncing him dead at the scene. No officers were reported injured. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation assumed responsibility for probing the shooting following standard protocol.

On 01/2021, Brandon Larson, 34, died after fleeing from police during a foot pursuit in Ketchikan. During the chase, Larson entered a creek and drowned. He was later pronounced dead. Body camera footage released after the incident provided additional insight into the circumstances leading up to his death and the officers’ actions during the pursuit. Authorities stated the incident was reviewed following the release of the footage.
