On October 20, 2024, Phoenix police officers responded to a trespassing call at a Dollar Tree store located near 37th and Glendale Avenues in Phoenix. The store had reported that 31-year-old Essex Jackson was allegedly refusing to leave and had retreated into a storeroom. When officers arrived, they found Jackson on top of a freezer and attempted to engage him. A struggle ensued when the officers tried to arrest him, and Jackson seized one of their tasers during the altercation. In response, at least one officer discharged their weapon, fatally shooting Jackson. The officers involved were treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the struggle.

Alejandro Gamez, 26, died by suicide under police duress on 09/14/2024, following a series of events linked to armed robberies and the murder of an accomplice. According to reports, Gamez and Ambernovana Guadalupe Gradillas, 24, were involved in several armed robberies before arranging a drug deal on 09/13/2024. During the meeting, Gamez shot and killed Manuel Avechuco, 44. Following the murder, Gamez and Gradillas fled the scene.

On 09/14/2024, police located Gamez at an apartment complex in Tucson. During an attempted arrest, Gamez fired at officers, damaging a patrol vehicle. Police escalated the encounter, and Gamez ultimately shot himself. Gradillas was later arrested and charged with felony murder and robbery.

The investigation is being conducted by the Tucson Police Department.

Imani Jackson, 46, was chased on foot by Phoenix PD on 08/10/2024 after a report of him having what sounded like warning shots near a group of people near 27th Avenue and Van Buren Street and then leaving. Police located Jackson’s vehicle near 25th Avenue and Buckeye Road and attempted a traffic stop. Police are seen approaching him with guns drawn and Jackson fled on foot with police in pursuit. During the chase, officers claimed that he had reached for his waistband. A firearm was allegedly recovered at the scene.

The autopsy report for Imani Jackson has not been disclosed. BWC shows that he was shot from behind while running away. The distance and low light makes it impossible to see him reaching for anything on BWC from the perspective of the shooter officer's BWC. Police had stated that he had reached for his waistband. He was seen wearing loose pajama bottoms on all videos. Police allege that they found a handgun they claim to be his in a nearby yard but not immediately on scene.
