On June 19, 2025 at approximately 7:20 p.m., a Phoenix Police Department officer was traveling northbound on Cave Creek Road when a collision occurred at the intersection with Pinnacle Peak Road. Erik Sosteno Yrigollen was driving westbound and ran a red light, striking the passenger side of the marked police Tahoe. Yrigollen was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The officer received non-life-threatening injuries and was also evaluated at the hospital. Phoenix PD detectives, along with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Maricopa County Medical Examiner, are conducting the investigation.

On 06/11/2025 at approximately 6:04 p.m., Gilbert Police Department officers responded to a welfare check at the intersection of Lindsay Road and Guadalupe Road after receiving reports of a man slumped over inside a vehicle. When officers approached, the man, identified as 24-year-old Jacob Allen Rose, became alert and produced a firearm. Two officers then opened fire, striking Rose. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On June 4, Arizona Department of Public Safety officers and Gila County deputies pursued a 34-year-old man connected to two separate drive-by shootings in Phoenix. On April 3, 2025, around 1:42 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a stolen mail truck in Fort Mohave, Arizona. On 01/08/2025, Dillon Siebeck, 46, was shot and killed by officers from the Glendale Police Department in a case of mistaken identity during a domestic violence call investigation in Horizon Park in Glendale, Arizona. Officers were searching for a separate suspect described in relation to a domestic violence report when they encountered Siebeck, who was unarmed and not connected to the reported incident. According to court filings, police commanded him to approach but a series of shots were fired, striking Siebeck. He was unarmed and was later confirmed not to be the suspect officers were seeking. Rey David Martinez was fatally shot by Phoenix police around 11:30 a.m. after a woman reported him jumping into her backyard while she was feeding livestock. The incident occurred near 3rd Street and Clarendon Avenue. Officers arrived, surrounded an alley, and confronted Martinez, who allegedly ignored commands and pointed a replica handgun at them. Two officers fired their weapons, killing him, while a third officer's attempt to deploy less-lethal force failed. Martinez was reportedly unhoused at the time of the incident. A Goodyear PD officer with emergency lights ran a red light at unknown speed, hit and killed motorcyclist Jacob Vela. The officer’s speed was unknown. Police state that the officer had lights and sirens activated and Vela should have seen him. Then a bystander dropped video showing no lights and sirens were on \, that Vela had a green light and the officer went into the intersection against a red light without warning, killing Vela. Police have refused to release security video from a nearby business while a citizen anonymously submitted the video below.

On October 20, 2024, Phoenix police officers responded to a trespassing call at a Dollar Tree store located near 37th and Glendale Avenues in Phoenix. The store had reported that 31-year-old Essex Jackson was allegedly refusing to leave and had retreated into a storeroom. When officers arrived, they found Jackson on top of a freezer and attempted to engage him. A struggle ensued when the officers tried to arrest him, and Jackson seized one of their tasers during the altercation. In response, at least one officer discharged their weapon, fatally shooting Jackson. The officers involved were treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the struggle.

Investigation: The Phoenix Police Department is investigating the incident, and it is currently under review by the department's internal affairs division.

The incident involving Daniel Leslie, the unarmed man shot by Prescott police, stems from an earlier domestic violence event. On June 7, 2024, Leslie allegedly threatened his girlfriend and tried to break down a door at an RV where she was staying. When officers arrived, he was gone, but they later spotted him in his car. Despite an attempt to stop him for questioning, Leslie fled at a high rate of speed. The officers, citing dangerous driving, decided not to pursue him.

The next day, June 8, officers returned to Leslie's home to arrest him for the domestic violence incident and fleeing from law enforcement. When Leslie allegedly ignored verbal commands and moved toward his carport area, Officer Brian Sutton fired three shots at him, striking him at least once. Leslie, who was unarmed, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officer Sutton was fired and he was indicted for the murder of this unarmed man in aMay of 2025.

Phoenix Police were called to the scene of a fatal shooting near 49th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, where they discovered 45-year-old Johnny Grammatico deceased in a U-Haul vehicle. Witnesses identified a silver Nissan Sentra at the scene, which sped away as officers arrived. Police escalated a high-speed chase, reaching over 90 mph, that ended near a business at 99th Avenue and Thunderbird Boulevard in Sun City. After stopping, Alberto Espinoza exited the vehicle with a firearm. When confronted by officers, Espinoza pointed the weapon toward them. One officer fired, and Espinoza simultaneously shot himself. Mesa Police officers engaged Edward Johnson, 37, during an attempted traffic stop while he was riding a bicycle near Crismon and Broadway Roads on 09/29/2024. On 09/21/2024, Yuma police responded to reports of a "physical domestic disturbance" involving a child in the area of S. Ragen Drive and E. 30th Place. Upon their arrival, officers observed James Michael Spaugh fleeing the scene. Police established a perimeter and conducted a search in the vicinity of County 11th Street and S Desert Air Boulevard. During the encounter, police reported that Spaugh was shot and killed. The Yuma Police Department has not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the shooting or identified the officers involved.

Alejandro Gamez, 26, died by suicide under police duress on 09/14/2024, following a series of events linked to armed robberies and the murder of an accomplice. According to reports, Gamez and Ambernovana Guadalupe Gradillas, 24, were involved in several armed robberies before arranging a drug deal on 09/13/2024. During the meeting, Gamez shot and killed Manuel Avechuco, 44. Following the murder, Gamez and Gradillas fled the scene.

On 09/14/2024, police located Gamez at an apartment complex in Tucson. During an attempted arrest, Gamez fired at officers, damaging a patrol vehicle. Police escalated the encounter, and Gamez ultimately shot himself. Gradillas was later arrested and charged with felony murder and robbery.

The investigation is being conducted by the Tucson Police Department.
