Imani Jackson, 46, was chased on foot by Phoenix PD on 08/10/2024 after a report of him having what sounded like warning shots near a group of people near 27th Avenue and Van Buren Street and then leaving. Police located Jackson’s vehicle near 25th Avenue and Buckeye Road and attempted a traffic stop. Police are seen approaching him with guns drawn and Jackson fled on foot with police in pursuit. During the chase, officers claimed that he had reached for his waistband. A firearm was allegedly recovered at the scene.

The autopsy report for Imani Jackson has not been disclosed. BWC shows that he was shot from behind while running away. The distance and low light makes it impossible to see him reaching for anything on BWC from the perspective of the shooter officer's BWC. Police had stated that he had reached for his waistband. He was seen wearing loose pajama bottoms on all videos. Police allege that they found a handgun they claim to be his in a nearby yard but not immediately on scene.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on April 12, 2024, a Cottonwood police officer initiated a traffic stop of Donovan Jelicich’s vehicle in the 500 block of South 12th Street in Cottonwood. Jelicich had been driving without headlights and tailgating another vehicle. After a brief interaction where Jelicich provided his license and failed to remain in his vehicle, he exited his car and engaged in a physical altercation with the officer. The officer deployed a Taser, but the altercation escalated, and Jelicich was shot during the struggle. The officer was injured and treated at Verde Valley Medical Center, while Jelicich was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center. He died from his injuries on April 19, 2024. The officer involved was placed on administrative leave as per protocol. Dash cam and body cam footage of the incident have been released for review.

At approximately 10 p.m. on April 4, 2024, Tucson Police Department (TPD) officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in the 7400 block of East Calle Merida. Upon arrival, officers were informed that Jacob Dryer, 27, was intoxicated and had assaulted people inside the house. Dryer had reportedly taken a knife from one of the victims and was believed to be armed with several weapons, including a shotgun. As the situation escalated, two victims were able to escape the house.

A standoff ensued, with Dryer barricading himself inside the home. The TPD attempted to negotiate with Dryer, but he refused to communicate and engaged in erratic behavior, including breaking glass and racking a shotgun. The police used less-lethal measures, including K-9s, in an attempt to subdue him. Dryer emerged from the home and appeared to be attempting to enter a vehicle before retreating back inside. Hours later, he reappeared at the door, allegedly pointing a firearm toward officers. In response, Officer Kyle Frank, a 16-year veteran of the TPD, discharged his weapon, fatally shooting Dryer.

On the evening of February 24, 2024, Pima County deputies responded to a call about a man acting aggressively and wielding a sword at the Days Inn near Tucson International Airport. The man, later identified as 23-year-old Devon Lewis, was reported to be outside the hotel, yelling and threatening people with the weapon. When deputies arrived, Lewis briefly sheathed the sword before drawing it again and charging towards them. Deputy Ramon Morales, a one-year veteran with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, fired his weapon, striking and fatally wounding Lewis. Despite immediate efforts by other deputies to administer first aid, Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is being investigated by the Pima County Regional Incident Team (PCRIT), with oversight by the Tucson Police Department. The PCSD will also conduct an internal review, with all findings to be submitted to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for further review.

On February 19, 2024, Phoenix police responded to reports of a man attempting to steal cars at gunpoint in the area of 60th Lane and McDowell Road. Officers quickly located the 37-year-old man, later identified as Miguel Godines, and began a pursuit. On February 12, 2024, at around 1:06 PM, the Lake Havasu City Police attempted to stop a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro after it was observed speeding near Acoma Blvd S and Demaret Dr. The vehicle fled from officers but was not pursued initially. Police later saw the Camaro again committing traffic violations at Sweetwater Ave and McCulloch Blvd S. After another failed traffic stop attempt, the driver fled again, leading to a low-speed pursuit north on Sweetwater Ave. The chase continued southbound on State Route 95 before the driver of the Camaro crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2004 Beaver Motorhome. The Camaro's driver, identified as 49-year-old Adam Zink, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A passenger in the motorhome was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Lake Havasu City Police Department's Crash Team is handling the investigation.
