On 09/07/2021, Tucson police and the Pima County SWAT team responded to a barricade/hostage situation after officers said Brandon Michael Watts shot and killed a woman identified by police as his girlfriend and injured another woman earlier that morning. Police tracked Watts to a hotel where he allegedly held a mother and four children hostage in a room at the Siegel Select Tucson hotel near South Butterfield Drive. On July 31, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a head-on collision occurred on State Route 86 near Sells, Arizona, involving a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle and another car. On 06/10/2021 at approximately 3:10 a.m., an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper observed a silver Chevrolet SUV traveling at speeds exceeding 110 miles per hour on Interstate 10 and attempted a traffic stop. Police reported that Sailer was making suicidal statements and that a baby and a toddler were inside the apartment with him. Officers remained on scene for approximately 45 minutes. After ending contact with the crisis line, Sailer exited the apartment while armed with a gun. Police said he did not comply with commands to disarm. Officers deployed less-lethal rounds and then opened fire, killing Sailer at the scene. The shooting was later reviewed and cleared by the county attorney.

On February 1, 2021, 34-year-old Andrew Scott Kislek followed his estranged wife to the Tucson Veterans Affairs Medical Center and rammed her vehicle before firing several shots into it. During the stop in the Circle K parking lot, a confrontation occurred, and Officer Alexis Lujan opened fire, killing Kislek.
