Jayden Prunty was walking on Spruce Street. As seen on the body camera footage, Officer Corey Obregon stopped him as part of drug interdiction operation in the area. The officer “detected a strong odor of marijuana.” Prunty walked away while the officer continued to tell him to “Come here.” Prunty ran and Officer Obregon followed, and both fell to the ground. With Prunty on the ground as the officer tried to cuff him, the officer told dispatch he had a" suspect fighting.”
Prunty was allegedly reaching for something which the officer believed to be a gun. A shot is heard, which investigators alleged Prunty fired, hitting Officer Obregon in the leg. The officer then pulled his gun and fired two shots, which appeared to hit Prunty in the head as both men remained on their sides.
The officer then called for help from dispatch, saying shots have been fired. Investigators said they could hear the officer kick the other gun away. Other officers responded to the scene. Prunty died at the hospital. The full video is linked below.

On February 20, 2021, officers from the Lonoke Police Department recognized a vehicle linked to a North Carolina child-abduction investigation parked at a McDonald’s in Lonoke, Arkansas.
