On April 25, 2024, at approximately 10:31 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting that a 75-year-old woman had been shot multiple times in front of her garage on the 2400 block of Fern Street in Eureka. The shooter, identified as 32-year-old Kevin Jeffrey Burks, allegedly approached the victim and her sister, opened fire, and then fled westbound on Fern Street toward Walnut Avenue. Deputies arrived at the scene around 10:38 a.m. and spotted Burks walking on Fern Street. When deputies attempted to detain him at gunpoint, Burks fled into a nearby residence. At approximately 10:40 a.m. Burks exited the residence and advanced toward the deputies while pointing a firearm in their direction. Lieutenant Conan Moore discharged his firearm, striking Burks in the chest. Burks was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 3, 2024. The elderly victim was also hospitalized and later released to a rehabilitation facility. The incident is under investigation by the Humboldt County Critical Incident Response Team.

On April 19, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a duplex on the 7300 block of Arleta Court. Upon arrival, six individuals, including the victim, were safely evacuated. The man locked himself inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers identified 46-year-old Donald Washington, who matched the description, sitting on a park bench. Officers exited their vehicle with weapons drawn and issued multiple commands for Washington to remove his hands from his pockets and to drop the firearm. Washington did not comply and began to back away, repeatedly asking, "Why?" As officers continued to instruct him to drop the gun, Washington pulled a firearm from his jacket pocket. An officer then discharged their weapon, striking Washington. After falling to the ground, Washington appeared to raise the gun again, prompting the officer to fire additional rounds. Officers rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported Washington to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On April 17, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department, investigating the March 3 homicide of 34-year-old Rama Alsarraj, requested assistance from the Oakland Police Department to apprehend suspect Dominique Broadt, 32, at a residence on the 1000 block of 16th Street in Oakland. As officers secured the area, Broadt emerged from the residence holding a firearm. The vehicle was occupied by two individuals, including 42-year-old Shawn Karr of Coulterville.

Exiting their patrol vehicle, deputies detained Pilar at gunpoint and issued commands for him to stop his vehicle. Pilar made a three-point turn and began driving toward the deputies, ignoring repeated commands to stop. As he continued to advance toward one of the deputies, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Pilar sustained gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Deputies administered first aid until Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived. Pilar was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. One deputy was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident. No other individuals were injured. While heading eastbound on the 25000 block of Gentian Avenue, the driver lost control and collided with two parked vehicles. On March 26, 2024, at approximately 5:09 p.m., Fullerton Police Department officers responded to a reported bank robbery at the Wells Fargo branch located at 141 W. Bastanchury Road. The man, identified as 57-year-old Scott William Thompson, entered the bank wearing a mask and claimed to possess a bomb contained within a white box. He demanded $58,000 from the teller, threatening to detonate the device if his demands were not met. At the time, the bank was occupied by employees and at least one customer. Officers arrived on the scene within two minutes and established communication with bank employees via telephone. Approximately ten minutes into the incident, employees informed officers that they had placed the demanded money into a box labeled "DPS" and that Thompson would be exiting the bank shortly. On March 8, 2024, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the U.S. Border Patrol El Centro Sector communications center reported a stolen white Dodge Caravan near the California Department of Food and Agriculture Station on Interstate 8 in Winterhaven, California. A Border Patrol agent located the vehicle at the intersection of I-8 and State Route 7 near Calexico and confirmed its stolen status. The agent initiated a traffic stop on SR 7, approximately three-quarters of a mile south of Heber Road. The driver initially complied but then re-entered the vehicle and fled southbound on SR 7, turning west onto State Route 98.

A Supervisory Border Patrol Agent deployed a Vehicle Immobilization Device (VID) near the intersection of SR 98 and Aderholdt Road, deflating the vehicle's front tires. Despite this, the driver continued westbound until the vehicle crashed. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The California Highway Patrol and Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility are investigating the incident.

On March 7, 2024, at approximately 11:10 a.m., Pleasanton Police Department officers responded to reports of gunshots at a residence on Saginaw Circle. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased female victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses identified the person as the victim's estranged boyfriend, who had fled the scene in a vehicle. An unmarked police unit located and followed the vehicle onto westbound Interstate 580. The pursuit concluded near Miramonte Avenue in San Leandro, where the vehicle collided with the center median and came to a stop. Officers attempted to communicate with the man, deploying less-lethal munitions and gas, but received no response. Upon approaching the vehicle, they found him deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed in accordance with confidentiality laws related to domestic violence.

Sean Barry had shot and killed his significant other, Jasmine Monique Del Mar, then fled with police in pursuit until he crashed on I-580 in San Leandro. When police approached the vehicle, he died from suicide under police duress.
