On January 14, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Octavio Hernandez allegedly broke into the Mokelumne River Fish Hatchery in Clements, California. He reportedly stole a rifle, a duty belt with a handgun, a bulletproof vest, and a utility truck, which he used to flee the scene. The theft was discovered around 7:00 a.m. when employees arrived.California Highway Patrol officers located the stolen vehicle around 8:30 a.m. near Clements and pursued Hernandez into Calaveras County. A chase ensued, but officers lost sight of the vehicle due to Hernandez's erratic driving. Around 10:00 a.m., Hernandez attempted to carjack a homeowner on Buena Vista Court in Jenny Lind. The homeowner refused and contacted 911, prompting Hernandez to flee into the nearby Calaveras River Canyon, armed with the stolen firearms and wearing the bulletproof vest.

Overnight, deputies used a drone to deliver a cell phone and food to Hernandez, attempting to negotiate his surrender. Despite these efforts, Hernandez remained uncooperative. On January 15, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Hernandez fired at responding law enforcement officers. Police opened fire and killed him at the location. Four deputies were placed on administrative leave.

On 12/02/2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the Fountain Valley Police Department initiated a pursuit of Timothy Bradford Cole II, a 43-year-old documented member of a white supremacist gang. The pursuit began after Cole allegedly set fire to a bush outside his sister's fiancé's residence in retaliation for losing custody of his children. This custody loss was reportedly initiated by his sister contacting child protective services.

Cole fled the scene in a white Dodge Ram pickup truck. The pursuit, lasting less than a minute and covering just over a mile, ended at the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Magnolia Street when Cole ran a red light and collided with a white BMW X3.
The crash killed 25-year-old bystander Hong Ngoc Nguyen, a tourist from Vietnam, who was a passenger in the BMW. Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to a local trauma center for treatment.

On November 28, 2024, Brea Police Department officers responded to reports of a possible DUI driver near Lambert Road and the 57 Freeway. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle against a retaining wall in the westbound lanes of Lambert Road, just east of the freeway. Officers made contact with the driver, and shortly thereafter shot and killed him. The driver was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The circumstances leading to the shooting are under investigation by the Orange County District Attorney's Office, as per department policy.

On 11/28/2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Santa Clara County Sheriff's Deputies attempted to stop a white Hyundai Elantra near South De Anza Boulevard and Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino, believing it was stolen from San Jose. The driver was seen wearing a face mask and hooded sweater. Police escalated a chase that ended when the Elantra crashed into a tree near Saratoga Los Gatos Road and Via Colina in Saratoga. The male driver fled on foot but was apprehended nearby. A male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while two female passengers and the driver sustained injuries and were hospitalized. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialist (STARS) Team is investigating the collision.

On 11/26/2024, Los Angeles police initiated a pursuit of Aundre Jones, who was reportedly sought for a domestic violence-related incident. The chase ended in the West Adams area. Jones allegedly fired shots on the officers. Police opened fire, fatally striking Jones. Initial reports state Jones was armed with two handguns during the encounter, and was engaged in a shootout with police after he exited his vehicle. Police shot and killed him. An LAPD helicopter was deployed during the chase, and several patrol vehicles participated while LAPD in collaboration with media turned it into a live broadcast spectacle known to happen in Los Angeles during which police often play a performative media role which may influence the outcome as police are expected by a large TV audience to render decisive results.

On 11/25/2024, Stanislaus County deputies initiated a pursuit in Modesto to apprehend a 40-year-old man wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and other charges. Police escalated the chase after the individual drove away from an attempted stop near Crows Landing Road and Boulder Avenue. Police escalagted a chase up to 140 mph that ended with the man colliding with another vehicle at Crows Landing Road and South 7th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Three occupants of the other vehicle—a man, a woman, and a child—sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the incident.
