The Polk County sheriff’s office said deputies were called to the home of Maximino Lopez-Gonzalez, 68, for a family disturbance. He had sprayed a bedridden 65-year-old woman with a chemical cleaning liquid while threatening to kill her.Deputies arrested him and he was taken to the sheriff’s processing center. He freed one hand from cuffs and started hitting the windows of a patrol car with his fists and head. The deputy who was transporting the Lopez-Gonzalez stopped. Maximino Lopez-Gonzalez was sweating and hallucinating and continued to fight police, suggestive of possible drug intoxication. He became unresponsive on the way to the hospital and died. Cause of death has not been disclosed by police.

Other officers responded also and escalated a chase. The man inside the car rolled the window down slightly, held out a gun, then fired one shot into a police car. Police attempted to conduct a PIT maneuver. Jeffrey Martin then crashed into a police car, another police car head on, then crashed into a pole. He fired a shot through the window, hitting the officer in the face. The bullet lodged in his chest. Five officers shot and killed him. Jeffrey Martin had no prior criminal record.

JSO responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Copper Springs Road on the Southside at 12:30 a.m. A woman was reportedly trapped inside a bedroom with a man “terrorizing her” with a knife. When Jacksonville deputies arrived, the woman had already escaped through the bathroom window while the man remained inside. After she escaped the building through a master bedroom window, SWAT bore down on the apartment with a standoff. SWAT fired gas into the home and the man ran out.
JSO’s Urban Assault Vehicle went in through the fence. Via helicopter, the man was seen trapped between two homes when officers arrived with guns drawn. The K9 was released and as the dog reached the man, he raised a knife to try and stab the police dog. Police shot and killed him.

Police received a call by a woman to 911 inside a home on Lindsey Place about a family hostage situation. The caller wanted police to assist with removing the children from the residence.
When police heard gun fire, SWAT entered the home, found Oliver dead behind the front door and shortly after, they found his 19-year-old stepson dead. In addition to the men, there were also two girls age 14 and 16 at the scene. Antonio Oliver, 40, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the front door of the home under police duress. Waters said task force officers pulled over Tyliko Maduro, 32, on the Westside at Interstate 295 and 103rd Street for a traffic violation but were apparently pursuing him due to a previous police encounter.
During the prior traffic stop that started the targeting of Maduro, Maduro had allegedly admitted running a red light. Bodycam footage shown at the news briefing showed officers talking to the man and then asking to search the vehicle. It is not clear why police wanted to search a vehicle when the stated offense was running a red light. Maduro drove off during the traffic stop and police went to a home on Ridgeview Avenue near Morse Avenue to “conduct a door knock.” Officers made contact with Maduro’s mother, who agreed to open the door.
Officers claim they did not have their guns drawn but that one officer had a taser out. When the mother opened the door, Maduro allegedly fired shots at police.
SWAT arrived and Maduro continued to fire several shots and then allegedly committed suicide under police duress. Maduro had no prior record of criminal convictions before this incident.No officers were charged.

While investigating a burglary in which a smartwatch was stolen, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, police tracked the watch to Leon Burroughs and found him asleep in a car on Hardee Street.
Jacksonville deputies allegedly saw a gun on the hood of the car and moved it to the back. They then tried to get Leon Burroughs out of the car. In the video, Leon Burroughs can be heard responding, asking them to move the flashlights, and one officer does. “He had just woke up. He didn’t have time to get no gun. He just woke up, and they had the lights flashing, and he said, ‘What’s going on?’ And they shot him,” his grandmother said. Burroughs was shot and killed. His grandmother doesn’t believe this shooting was justified. No officers were charged.

Stanley Davis Jr., a 13-year-old student, was on his dirt bike as a police officer chased him into a fatal crash when the officer claimed he was riding “recklessly”.
“It is clear as day that the young man was targeted,” one woman at the support rally for Stanley Davis said. “Thirteen years old, honor roll student just simply trying to get home. It is not fair.”
