On December 7, 2021, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a concerned neighbor contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, reporting that 88-year-old Ronald Ehrich had not been seen for two days. Deputies responded to his residence on Longcrest Drive. Deputy Anastacia Castillo, who had been with the department since 2015, entered the home to conduct a welfare check. As she ascended the stairs, she knocked on a bedroom door and announced her presence. When there was no response, she knocked again and heard a male voice indicating he was armed.
