OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On March 21, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in coordination with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) and its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, executed a high-risk warrant at a residence on County Road 217 in Maxville, Florida. Another individual was taken into custody without incident.
The deceased individual's identity has not been released, and it remains unclear whether he was the primary target of the DHS investigation. Date : 02/09/2024
Location : Ruth Avenue
City : Zephyrhills
County : Pasco
State : Florida
Agency : US Marshals, Pasco County Sheriff's Office
Officer(s) : Not disclosed
Cause of Death : Gunshot
Event : Killed by police during arrest
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 9, 2024, the U.S. Marshals led a militarized arrest operation, supported by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and other unnamed law enforcement agencies, to apprehend 31-year-old Alfredo Luis Rodriguez in connection with a previous homicide. At approximately 6:45 a.m., the U.S. Marshals Service, accompanied by local law enforcement, arrived at Rodriguez's residence with warrants issued from Pasco and Hillsborough counties. Upon arrival, officers encountered Rodriguez’s pregnant girlfriend at the door and immediately evacuated her from the premises.
.
As officers entered the home, Rodriguez opened fire. A Tampa Police Department officer, assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force, returned fire. Rodriguez then engaged in an exchange of gunfire through a window with arriving Pasco County deputies, prompting one deputy to open fire on Rodriguez. This confrontation escalated into a prolonged and intense standoff during which Rodriguez allegedly fired intermittently at law enforcement.
.
The multi-agency task force responded with advanced tactical equipment, including drones, an armored Lenco BearCat vehicle, and a robotic "dog" manufactured by Boston Dynamics, known as Spot. After several hours of relentless pressure, the SWAT team used the BearCat to breach the residence with a battering ram. To further incapacitate Rodriguez, the task force deployed multiple flashbang grenades and tear gas canisters to disorient and overwhelm him.
.
Upon forcing entry into the home, officers discovered Rodriguez deceased from a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities have not confirmed whether the wound was self-inflicted or the result of law enforcement action. No additional information regarding the precise circumstances of his death has been released.
.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting the investigation into the incident. Final findings will be reviewed by the state attorney’s office for further decision-making. The U.S. Marshals Service, as is standard, does not release body-worn camera footage or detailed reports to the public. All details documented to date are summarized in this text. The identities of all federal agents and officers involved remain fully shielded and have not been disclosed.
