Chavon Mackey, 32, was a father of 3 with a fourth child on the way who was killed by a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Corrections Officer Cassius Edwards who was driving while intoxicated and speeding when he collided with Mackey’s car. Officer Edwards was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. Edwards is suspended without pay but not fired.

Sonny Ray Holland Sr. was locked into a home with his 2 children after a domestic violence report. He was under police siege for 18 hours when the house was noted to be on fire. On November 2, 2023, Palmetto police responded to a call about Breonte' Johnson-Davis in the midst of a mental health crisis. Officers attempted to restrain him, using a taser to subdue him. He later died in custody.

The exact number of times the individual was tased during the incident with Palmetto police or the duration of each taser application has not been fully disclosed. However, reports confirm that he was tased multiple times while in police custody. The medical examiner attributed his death to "excited delirium" and the effects of methamphetamine, along with his interaction with police, particularly the taser use. After a shooting was reported in Parramore, deputies arrived and began chasing a vehicle until it crashed into oncoming traffic. The fleeing driver died and the passenger was hospitalized. The man killed was not publicly identified.

Rasheem Edwards was traffic-stopped on a dirt bike because it had no reg tags in Silver Springs Shores, FL and allegedly ran on foot from the traffic stop with officers claiming he was open-carrying a gun. Police allege that he had pulled it out and they shot and killed him.

Eyewitnesses state that police shot and killed the man 75 feet from the crowd near a football field and children stated that the man collapsed and died in front of them. Police had not reported this detail initially when they announced the death and had not revealed that the officer had fired his weapon near a crowded field with children and parents. Parents are quite upset and were offered free counseling by the police department.

The officer has formally invoked Marsy’s Law, a law originally created to shield the identities of crime victims. Police in Florida and several other states routinely abuse Marsy’s Law to hide the names of killer cops. Marsy’s Law has officially been requested by the officer to hide his name.

An unnamed 50-year-old man on a motorcycle hit a deer on I-75 in Palmetto and was thrown from his motorcycle. Florida Highway Patrol came to help and ran over and killed the man who had been injured in the road.

Miami PD attempted a traffic stop and police from the interventional robbery unit allegedly chased the vehicle. The driver allegedly closed the door and the detective’s hand was caught in the door. The car fled and police escalated a chase until the vehicle rolled over and crashed into a house, causing significant damage to the home. Police allege that a gun flew out of the vehicle when it rolled over and was found nearby. Police state that the vehicle was a rental car and that it was not clear whether it was stolen or if the teenager had been permitted to drive it at this time. Daniel Brown, an unhoused 63-year-old cyclist, was riding east on State Road 200 around 3 a.m. near On Top of the World, a retirement community. East of the intersection with Southwest 80 Avenue, a sheriff’s office SUV came flying at 96 mph in a 50 mph zone without lights or sirens and with evidence that no brakes were ever used and hit and killed Brown on his bicycle. The deputy told troopers he could not see the cyclist before hitting them. Daniel Brown died at the scene.
Deputy Jaglal could have been charged with vehicular homicide but was cleared of criminal charges and was cited for failure to use due care when approaching a pedestrian or bicyclist. The ticket, the only repercussion for this deputy, requires a mandatory court appearance. Jalal's driver's license could be suspended for up to six months, and he could be fined up to $1,000. The case is pending a court appearance.

A plainclothes Miami PD officer who worked in robbery, engaged in a foot chase with a man who jumped a fence and allegedly tried to reach for a gun. Police shot and killed him. It is unlikely that police will ever produce video or other evidence, particularly since its plainclothes unit was involved. Police did not say why they chased the man, leading to his death. His mother said he had been on the way to get a haircut in the neighborhood.

A deputy pulled over a vehicle and found out the driver did not have a license. The deputy tried to take the person to the patrol car and the person resisted. The deputy became physical and tried to arrest them by force. Both landed on the ground, wrestling over an attempted arrest. Sarasota County deputies escalated a chase against a driver for unknown reasons. The driver did not stop and the deputy attacked the vehicle with a PIT maneuver. The deputy alleged that somehow, in the process, the driver tried to ram her patrol vehicle and she shot and killed him. So far, no eyewitnesses or objective evidence have been located to compare to the official police narrative. It is unclear whether the “ramming” was connected to losing control during a PIT maneuver or a true attempt to drive toward the officer. No dashcam video for verification is available.

Auburndale PD located a car they felt may be stolen and escalated a chase. The Kia crashed in an onramp and the officer tasered the driver. Five more officers arrived and unleashed a K9 on the man who fought off the K9 and allegedly threatened police with a knife. It is not reported that he tried to harm the attacking dog or the police with whatever knife police allege he held. Police shot and killed him. Miami-Dade PD arrived at an attempted robbery and were given the description of a vehicle of the man who had tried to take a purse. Police chased what they believed to be the correct vehicle. The vehicle took off and crashed into a tree, killing the driver. Family of the deceased gathered at the site and expressed dismay and confusion, stating they believed police had chased the wrong car because the man who had been killed was a citizen who they were certain would not rob people.
