Upon arrival, an employee informed officers that a man was inside the business. Officers located 21-year-old Emilio Aguilar of Marietta inside the store and instructed him to exit. Once outside, as officers attempted to place Aguilar into custody, he broke free and began firing a rifle slung around his neck, striking two Smyrna officers in the leg. Three Cobb County police officers, who had arrived on the scene to assist, returned fire, fatally wounding Aguilar. The two injured Smyrna officers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
