On May 22, 2024, deputies from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office in Georgia initiated a high-speed pursuit of a BMW SUV traveling southbound on Interstate 75 at 126 mph. The vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Tisha Andrea Brown of Riviera Beach, Florida, carried six passengers, including four children. The chase continued into Hamilton County, Florida, where deputies deployed spike strips to halt the SUV. Officer Minor, who was on unpaid administrative leave due to a prior drug-related arrest, claimed he felt threatened during the ride. He alleged that Folks spoke in a foreign language via the car's Bluetooth system and ignored his requests to stop the vehicle. Believing he was being kidnapped and suspecting an attempt to recruit him into a "gay fraternity," Minor stated that when Folks reached toward the back seat, he discharged his firearm three times, striking Folks in the head. On March 28, 2024, Clayton County Police Department (CCPD) officers were investigating allegations of sexual assault and false imprisonment involving Robert Prince, 37, of College Park, Georgia. As officers arrived to execute a search warrant at the location where the alleged assault occurred, they observed Prince driving past in a black car. Officers followed him to a Valero gas station on Riverdale Road and attempted to detain him for questioning. Prince exited his vehicle and began firing at the officers, striking their patrol car's windshield and body. The officers took cover and returned fire, resulting in Prince's death at the scene. On March 23, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Snellville Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a Hyundai Tucson near the intersection of U.S. 78 (West Main Street) and Fountain Drive, close to Piedmont Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Georgia. The vehicle was stopped for operating without headlights. The driver, identified as Rashawn Johnson, 36, of Tucker, Georgia, partially lowered his window and informed officers that he wished to call his mother. After providing his identification, Johnson remained in the vehicle. When officers requested that he exit, he opened the driver's door, revealing a firearm. Despite commands to drop the weapon, Johnson discharged his firearm, leading officers to return fire. Johnson sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting. An autopsy conducted by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Johnson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
