On March 28, 2024, Clayton County Police Department (CCPD) officers were investigating allegations of sexual assault and false imprisonment involving Robert Prince, 37, of College Park, Georgia. The driver, identified as Rashawn Johnson, 36, of Tucker, Georgia, partially lowered his window and informed officers that he wished to call his mother. After providing his identification, Johnson remained in the vehicle. When officers requested that he exit, he opened the driver's door, revealing a firearm. On March 7, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM, Muscogee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Special Operations Unit initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by 27-year-old Demon Shaquille Moore, who was accompanied by 27-year-old Daizia Leatrice Williams. Moore did not stop. Deputies escalated the chase along Veterans Parkway in Columbus, Georgia. During the pursuit, deputies executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to stop Moore's vehicle. The maneuver caused Moore to lose control, cross the median, overturn, and collide with another vehicle on Veterans Parkway. Moore attempted to escape on foot but was arrested at the scene. On March 7, 2024, at approximately 9:30 PM, deputies from the Troup County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance at 1155 Shoemaker Road in West Point, Georgia. The call reported that 52-year-old Russell Heiser was armed and threatening to harm himself and possibly others inside the residence, including a child. Police evacuated several family members from the home, leaving Heiser inside alone. On January 29, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM, 58-year-old John Robert Smith of Decatur, Georgia, arrived at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur, exhibiting suicidal ideations. Hospital staff escorted Smith to the emergency room for assistance. While in the ER, Smith produced a knife and threatened to harm himself. VA police officers responded to the ER. Smith allegedly refused to drop the knife. Police allege that Smith advanced toward a staff member while still holding the knife. An officer fired shots, fatally wounding Smith. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Smith had a known history of mental health struggles and had sought help at the facility.

On January 17, 2024, at approximately 9:15 PM, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of 49-year-old Christopher Clyde Valentine, Sr. who had barricaded himself inside a restroom at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon, Georgia. Valentine had recently faced shoplifting charges and alleged probation violations, and was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis and feared police. Law enforcement, including SWAT, K-9 units, and hostage negotiators, responded to the scene.

As officers attempted to negotiate, shots were heard from inside the restroom. SWAT units set up a perimeter and intensified efforts to communicate with Valentine. After several hours of pressure and negotiations, the SWAT team began making entry into the restroom. At approximately 12:45 AM on January 18, 2024, Valentine took his own life. A high-speed police chase in Hart County, Georgia was initiated by Georgia State Patrol, Hart County Sheriff’s Officeafter a driver attempted to avoid a routine traffic safety check on Georgia Highway 77. Leonard Cure was traffic-stopped on the I-95 in Camden County, Georgia on 10/16/2023 and reportedly cooperated with the deputy until he was told he was under arrest. It is unknown how the deputy approached him or why he was suddenly attacked by taser at a traffic stop but he allegedly fought the deputy because he did not want to go back to jail under any circumstances. He was shot and killed.

Leonard Cure had spent 16 years in a Florida prison and was exonerated when his innocence was proven in 2020. His reaction to being told that he was under arrest for an unknown traffic infraction was to try to escape. He was murdered in the process. Police have no comment so far, have not made claims thus far that he had been armed and have not commented why they killed him. Leonard Cure died at a traffic stop in Georgia at the hands of a deputy on 10/16/2023.

*** 10/20/2023 UPDATE: It was discovered that deputy Buck Aldridge who killed Leonard Cure has a profound history of excessive force and on-duty and off-duty misconduct that caused him to be fired from his previous employer, the Kingsland PD. He was hired as deputy by Camden County in 2017 and is a sergeant.

Geoffry Frank Walker had 2 warrants for a previous family violence episode. Bartow County deputies located him and began an aggressive manhunt for the stated reason of these family fights, attacking him with a PIT maneuver and forcing him to crash his vehicle. Walker reportedly “hopped” out of his vehicle and fled according to local media with police unleashing and siccing a K9 after him. Walker allegedly fired a shot at the police K9 and injured him. The police dog was taken to the hospital and survived. Police chased Walker behind a hotel compound and shot and killed him. Police also seemingly mocked him when they described him as “hopping” away from the vehicle but this description suggests that he may have been injured by the aggressive PIT and dog attack. Police did not state how the police dog was injured, whether by bullet by police or by Walker fighting back.

Georgia State Police said they “saw a Golf Infinity SUV speeding without a driver’s license,” also allegedly running a red light. It is unclear how police knew the driver was unlicensed unless they had been targeting and following him and this detail needs clarification from police. Georgia State troopers hunted the vehicle at high speed until it crashed into a Honda Civic at high speed, instantly killing a woman who had been driving down through Memorial Drive and Hairston Road when hit by the massive police chase crash.
