Verna White, 44, was driving down the street in the residential area of First Avenue and 10th Street in Moultrie, had just returned from singing in her church and was just a few feet away from her home where she lived with her 2 sons when a car flew down the street at 95 mph, hit a house, telephone pole and then Verna White’s car with police after it. She was killed by the police chase crash by Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office that had ended with a car slamming into her at 95 mph with police racing behind it at around 10 p.m. The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was then called to the scene after it was found that the accident was actually prosecutable. Despite this consideration of wrongdoing by officers responsible for this chase, no officers were charged.

Tortugita was camping in Weelaunee Forest, the contested site outside of Atlanta where the large“Cop City” training facility is being built. On 01/18/2023, a militarized response by Atlanta police and SWAT arrived and executed Tortugita in his tent. An officer was shot in the abdomen and Tortugita was blamed for firing shots which eyewitnesses vehemently denied. When a BWC video was released later, an officer is overheard commenting that the officer who was shot was likely shot by police friendly fire, not Tortugita as had been claimed by police. Additionally, private autopsy conducted by the family revealed that Tortugita had been shot through both hands as he held them up defensively, speaking against the police claim that he was holding and firing a gun when shot.No officers were charged. The police investigation has been unforthcoming in transparency and accountability.

Georgia State Police troopers were patrolling I-75 in Clayton County when a Ford Fusion was seen speeding and not using a turn signal. Troopers escalated a chase and the Fusion fled. Troopers continued chasing the vehicle at high speeds into Fulton County when the took an exit ramp onto State Route 166. As he was entering the ramp, the vehicle drove off the road and went down and embankment where it ultimately flipped over, killing the driver.
