On 04/04/2024, deputies from the Lake County Sheriff's Office initiated a pursuit of a vehicle traveling at high speeds on a local roadway. The chase began when the driver, later identified as 79-year-old Antoine Pierre, failed to stop for a traffic violation and fled the scene.

During the pursuit, speeds reached over 100 mph. As the chase continued through residential areas, deputies used stop sticks in an attempt to disable the vehicle. Pierre's vehicle struck a guardrail near the Des Plaines River, causing it to veer off the road and crash into the river.

Pierre was ejected from the vehicle upon impact and was found deceased at the scene. Emergency responders attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead shortly after being recovered from the water.

On 03/18/2024, Decatur Police attempted to arrest 38-year-old Rocky L. Dupin in connection with an armed robbery. During the arrest, Dupin pulled a gun from his waistband. Officers Dawson Roberts and Tanner Brummitt responded by opening fire, fatally shooting Dupin.

On 03/10/2024, Des Plaines Police responded to a report of a suicidal individual barricaded in a vehicle at the intersection of Touhy Avenue and Lee Street. Officers observed 55-year-old Scott MacDonald inside the vehicle, armed with a handgun.

On 03/08/2024, Illinois State Police SWAT and Crisis Negotiating Teams responded to a call about a suicidal man at the TA Truck Stop located at 13750 23 Mile Road in Effingham, Illinois. Officers were notified that 33-year-old Jamon S. Weaver was inside his vehicle with a handgun and threatening to harm himself.

On March 6, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Kane County Sheriff's Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Durango traveling westbound on Route 64 at speeds of 92 mph. The driver did not stop. Officers escalated a chase which reached speeds of up to 110 mph. The deputy called off the chase and momentarily lost sight of the vehicle, but moments later, the deputy found the Durango crashed into a tree on the west side of Ramm Road. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The driver’s identity has not been released and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On February 24, 2024, at approximately 12:42 p.m., Illinois State Police responded to reports of shots fired involving two vehicles stopped on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 55 near Lexington, Illinois. Upon arrival, officers observed 37-year-old Trayvon C. Little standing behind one of the vehicles, pointing a firearm toward them. Officers issued commands for Little to drop the weapon; however, he did not comply. Officers then exchanged gunfire with Little, who was fatally struck and later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Subsequent investigation confirmed that Little had fired a shot from inside his vehicle in the direction of another vehicle before officers arrived. Officers spoke with the alleged victim, who reported a physical altercation with 30-year-old Isaac Goodlow, resulting in visible injuries. She provided consent for officers to enter the apartment, expressing concern for her dog and belongings left inside.

After approximately 50 minutes of attempts to contact Goodlow, officers obtained a key from the apartment manager and entered the unit. Upon opening the bedroom door, officers encountered Goodlow, who was shot once in the chest. Officers immediately called for paramedics and began administering aid. Goodlow was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His family contested the need for the shooting, stating he had never been violent and that police had “shot him down like a dog.”

On January 11, 2024, at approximately 11:51 a.m., Quincy Police Department officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 700 block of North 3rd Street. Upon arrival, officers observed 49-year-old Donald H. Hibbard with a handgun tucked in his waistband. Officer Hermsmeier attempted to de-escalate the situation using a TASER™, which was unsuccessful. During a struggle to gain control, Hibbard drew the handgun and fired, striking Officer Hermsmeier in the right upper arm. Officer VanderMaiden, fearing for both officers' lives, drew his service weapon and fired two rounds, fatally wounding Hibbard. Officer Hermsmeier was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Blessing Hospital. Hibbard was transported to the same hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The incident was investigated by the Illinois State Police, with findings reviewed by the Adams County State’s Attorney’s Office. No charges were filed against the officers involved.

On December 7, 2023, off-duty Chicago police officer Tangie Brown struck Maria “Tonie” Schwab, a pedestrian, while driving intoxicated. Brown had been drinking and dropped her cell phone, which she attempted to retrieve while driving at high speed. In the process, she lost control of her SUV, swerved, hit a median, and then mounted the curb, striking Schwab, who was walking on the sidewalk. Brown's blood alcohol content (BAC) was found to be above the legal limit.

The officer was found to be intoxicated above the legal limit when causing the accident and in February of 2024 was charged with Aggravated DUI/Accident/Death, one felony charge of Aggravated Use of Communication Device/Death, two misdemeanor charges of Failure to Give Info/Render Aid/Injury and one misdemeanor charge of Reckless Driving. She was also cited for Failure to Reduce Speed and Improper Traffic Lane Usage.

Two women were reportedly involved in a domestic fight with items being thrown out of an apartment. Police arrived and determined the fight was under control. One of the women, Christina McKinney, left the apartment and police followed her, yelling demands when they saw her hand in her pocket. Officer Blake Hollins fired 2 shots and killed her. The object turned out to be an AirSoft gun, a plastic replica of a weapon. The domestic disturbance had ended when police appeared. Police released a bodycam video that is heavily redacted with the entire figure of the woman being killed is blurred out throughout.

The officer who shot and killed McKinney was named as Blake Hollins who had received a previous 21-day suspension for preceding incidents with recommendations from superiors to fire him. This was apparently stopped by the police union. Officer Hollins was back on duty and shot and killed Christina McKinney. He received a 3-day suspension and was cleared back to work after that.

Round Lake Beach PD arrived at a domestic violence call to find two women who had injuries from being hit with a sledge hammer. A man was allegedly walking toward police with a sledge hammer. They shot and killed him.

Centralia PD were called to a domestic altercation. When they arrived, they claim that a man held a knife and they shot and killed him upon their arrival. No bodycam or eyewitnesses are available at this time for verification of the official narrative.

Round Lake Beach PD were called to a residence where a man who had once had a relationship with the resident had arrived and was unwanted. The resident had called police and the man left. Police allege that he had a meat cleaver at one point but there is no report of violence so far reported during the home invasion event.

Police arrived and looked for him, found him and hunted him westbound on Rollins Road. Police escalated a chase and promptly “called off the chase” before the vehicle crashed into 2 parked cars. The force of the pursuit crash was such that one of the parked vehicles spun into a 55-year-old man who was there to look at the vehicles as they were for sale. The 55-year-old was transported to the hospital in unknown condition and his survival is unknown. The man who had been hunted by police into this crash died and was identified as 38-year-old Lamar Chargois.

Lake County deputies responded to a call about a suicidal man with a meat cleaver. Police arrived and found an unconscious man who was injured and had lost a lot of blood. As police began handling him, he woke up and allegedly picked up a meat cleaver. Police shot and killed him. Since the man was seriously injured on the ground and fading in and out of consciousness, it is unclear why deputies could not step a few feet away from him if they were threatened and call for more competent medical and mental health help instead of killing him.

Chicago PD stopped a 30-year-old man in his vehicle for a code violation. It is unknown what transpired but the man got out of his car and fled away from police on foot. The trooper claims to have lost sight of him. He was found dead on the tracks from unknown cause shortly thereafter. This is a developing story and will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.The man has not been identified so far.

Danville PD saw a vehicle being driven by a man whose license was revoked. Police claim they saw the man driving erratically, bump a curb and police escalated a chase. The vehicle fled and police allege the driver threw a handgun out of the window. The vehicle crashed into a pickup truck driven by third party motorist William J. Marietta, 74, who was critically injured and later died in the hospital.

On 09/30/2023, law enforcement responded to a shooting incident at the Sangamon County Juvenile Center on S Dirksen Pkwy in Springfield. Camren Darden, a 17 year old, had a gun inside the facility and a confrontation developed that escalated into a standoff situation. During the incident, another person was shot and injured. Officers confronted Darden inside the detention facility and opened fire, striking him. He died from gunshot wounds. Body camera footage was later released documenting the encounter and police response inside the juvenile center.

Police were called to a medical emergency with a man having a diabetic reaction. Police fired a taser at the stricken man who died en route to the hospital. Various diabetic states commonly produce confused and combative states and such situations should be addressed by trained medical staff, not police with deadly weapons.

Grundy County deputies shot and killed Alivia A. Schwab on 09/29/2023 at 11:23 a.m. during a mental health crisis when she needed help. She was on the phone with her mental health counselor when police arrived, saw her holding a 9-inch kitchen knife in the parking lot with alleged intention of self-harming. Officer Pampinella instructed Officer Price to use a taser but Officer price pulled his gun and shot her in the face, then shot her two more times, killing her. She was a mother of 3 children. Her family stated the shooting was mental-health related. Her death was ruled a homicide. No officers were charged so far.

UPDATE: The family has filed a lawsuit in December of 2023.

Fairmount PD attempted a traffic stop on Kyeiree Myers for reasons they would
not disclose. Kyeiree allegedly stopped and then walked away from the car and
the approaching officer. Another officer on foot began chasing him, stopped him
and escalated a fight with him. Kyeiree ran from this officer, jumped in the patrol
car and drove away. Police fired shots at him. Kyeiree stopped a while later once
he was out of range of the attacking officers and collapsed onto the roadway
because he had been shot when fleeing from the attacking officer. As he fell, two
cars including another patrol vehicle in a row ran over him and killed him.
