On May 1, 2025, Lafayette police responded to a domestic disturbance at the Cypress Square Apartments on Ravenwood Court. A woman and her juvenile son had requested assistance leaving the residence due to safety concerns. While officers were inside the apartment with the woman and child, Kenneth D. Smith, 55, began firing a weapon in their direction. Officer Jeremy Kennedy, a 7-year veteran of the department, returned fire, striking Smith. Officer Evan Sturgeon, a 5-year veteran, was present but did not discharge his weapon. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman and her child were unharmed, and no officers were injured. The department's shooting review board determined that the officers' actions were within departmental policy. The incident was also reviewed by the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office.

On April 27, 2025, at approximately 4:36 p.m., officers responded to a residence regarding a man in crisis with a self-inflicted neck wound. Inside the home, Derick P. Morgan, 56, held a knife and, according to investigators, charged toward a Marion police officer. A Grant County Sheriff’s deputy fired, striking Morgan, who died at the scene. Indiana State Police is the lead agency; findings will be forwarded to the Grant County Prosecutor.

On April 23, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m., officers from the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police responded to a report of a man allegedly pointing a firearm at another individual in the 700 block of Dana, Indiana. Upon arrival, officers established defensive positions as 57-year-old Michael Landers exited the residence while brandishing a gun. The Terre Haute Police Department’s Special Response Team was called to assist. According to preliminary investigations, Landers pointed his weapon directly at officers. An officer opened fire, striking Landers. Medical aid was administered at the scene, and Landers was transported to a hospital in Clinton, Indiana, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, and the incident is under investigation by the Indiana State Police.

On April 14, 2025, Henry County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop a maroon Dodge Durango driven by Dewuan Hampton for erratic driving on State Road 3 near Indiana Avenue in New Castle. Hampton fled, initiating a pursuit that continued westbound on I-70 through Hancock County and into Marion County. Police chased the vehicle at high speed for more than 40 miles until it crashed into 2 cars. Dewuan Hampton was ejected as the vehicle rolled multiple times. He died on the road at East Washington Street and Mitthoefer Road in Indianapolis. Three passengers in the Durango and the driver of the Mustang were transported to local hospitals with varying injuries. The Indiana State Police are investigating the circumstances of the pursuit and crash.

On April 9, 2025, Gary Police responded to a home on the 2200 block of Carolina Street after reports of a domestic disturbance involving a 38-year-old man barricaded in a room with a one-year-old baby while armed. A 35-year-old family member was shot and injured before police arrived. The man fired multiple shots at responding officers. Gary SWAT, with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, used tear gas and tactical equipment. Around 4:20 a.m., the man exited the home holding the baby and pointing a gun at officers. A Gary officer shot and killed him. The baby appeared physically unharmed.

Around 1:18 a.m. on April 6, 2025, a Fort Wayne police officer attempted to stop a vehicle near East State Boulevard and Hobson Road. The driver refused to stop. Police escalated a pursuit. Moments later, the driver crashed the vehicle into a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. On April 6, 2025, a suicidal individual in mental health crisis drove away from Montgomery County deputies on Interstate 74 near Crawfordsville. On 02/25/2025, around 2:15 a.m., IMPD officers responded to a report of a woman assaulted in the 1600 block of East Washington Street, Indianapolis. While assisting the woman, officers observed 31-year-old Adam Javonta Sykes, believed to have an active arrest warrant, leaving a nearby business. When approached, Sykes refused to comply and fled on foot with his hands in his pockets. During the pursuit, an officer deployed a Taser, and subsequently, Sykes was shot. On January 8, 2025, 66-year-old Patricia Hepworth was fatally shot by Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) officers during a standoff at Parkview Studios on Harris Road in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The incident began when Indiana State Parole officers attempted to serve a felony parole violation warrant to Hepworth, who had been released on parole in 2023 after serving 22 years of a 50-year sentence for attempted murder and arson. Upon arrival, Hepworth barricaded herself inside her apartment while armed with a knife. FWPD's Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and Air Support Unit were dispatched to assist. On December 22, 2024, Evansville police officers responded to a domestic violence call at the home of Tyler J. Parrott, 47, in the 3200 block of Tiffany Court. The caller reported that Parrott had been abusive in the past and had thrown the family’s cat at the victim. Officers arrived at the residence shortly after 9 p.m. and observed Parrott inside, with a young child briefly running outside before running back inside. The mother, holding a child, was seen near the door while Parrott stood behind her.

Upon arrival, officers issued verbal commands for Parrott to drop the firearm he was reportedly holding. Instead of complying, Parrott raised the firearm and aimed it at officers. An officer fired one round, striking Parrott in the chest. The entire encounter lasted 48 seconds.

Parrott was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and remained in intensive care. He faces multiple felony charges, including intimidation with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, neglect of a dependent, and animal cruelty. Additional charges are expected in connection to the police shooting.

Parrott’s family was removed from the residence, and a search warrant was executed. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as per EPD protocol, and the incident is under investigation.

On December 4, 2024, Christopher L. Worrell, 37, was fatally shot by an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer following a violent disturbance in the 1400 block of Brookville Way, Indianapolis, Indiana. On 11/18/2024, Indiana State Police (ISP) responded to a homicide on State Road 28 in Clinton County. Officers located Terea Brown driving a vehicle believed to be connected to the case. Brown did not stop when officers attempted a traffic stop. State troopers escalated their pursuit until the vehicle stopped on State Road 28.

Brown exited the vehicle holding a gun. She reportedly did not comply with orders and allegedly pointed the gun in the direction of officers. Officers opened fire, striking her multiple times.

On 11/13/2024, undercover Gary Police Department's Investigation Unit conducted an undercover operation in the 3400 block of Maryland Street in response to a series of robberies linked to social media marketplace transactions. Officers posed as buyers to apprehend the man.

During the operation, 21-year-old Shahaud Richmond attacked a 32-year veteran officer with a machete-style weapon. Another officer at the scene opened fire, striking Richmond.

Richmond was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The Lake County Sheriff's Department Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On 11/10/2024, Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to reports of multiple individuals walking along the 4200 block of Avondale Drive, allegedly armed and threatening to shoot. Upon arrival, officers encountered several individuals, including 16-year-old Ah Mee Kun, who was reportedly holding a firearm.

Officers issued commands for Kun to drop the weapon. Kun allegedly did not comply with the orders. Officers opened fire, striking Kun multiple times.
