Des Moines Police traffic-stopped a 37-year-old man for a vehicle violation. He stopped and police claim he was uncooperative. They fired a taser at him and tried to drag him from the car. This led to a violent altercation. The man finally pulled a gun and began shooting. Police shot and killed him. Two officers were shot and injured. Police did not give an update whose bullets hit them as both officers and the man they had stopped were shooting.

Mount Pleasant police arrived at domestic violence call and found a man leaving in a vehicle. Police escalated a high-speed chase during which the man allegedly fired a shot through the windshield of the police cruiser. Police state that they engaged in a shootout and found him dead in his vehicle. It is not immediately clear whether he was killed by police or whether the fatal injury was self-inflicted.

Alexander Grunke was wanted for possible involvement in a homicide in another county and was located in Dane County. He fled. His car was disabled. Police found the 13-year-old child of the woman whom the man had allegedly killed dead inside the vehicle from so far unknown causes. A 5-month-old infant was handed to a person in a random residence before the couple continued fleeing. The man was allegedly armed and accompanied by an armed woman. The couple locked themselves in a home on Ramsey Road where SWAT bore down on the residence until the man allegedly killed the woman and then committed suicide under police duress. It is not entirely clear under which circumstances the woman died and she is therefore not included in this database until her killing is confirmed to have occurred under police duress. Omaha PD was called to a residence at 9927 Essex Drive for a well-being check of the resident. Officers saw forced entry into this residence once they arrived. During a search, they found a man who appeared to have been shot to death. Police began looking for Matthew Briggs with helicopters and K9 Unit. Omaha PD was notified that there was a carjacking in which the carjacker’s description matched that of Mr. Briggs. The car was quickly located and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit crossed into Iowa and ended when an Omaha PD and a Council Bluffs officer shot and killed Mr. Briggs inside of the Toyota. Matthew Briggs died. The officers will not be charged per County Attorney Matt Wilber. The shooting was additionally justified by the Attorney General.

Cedar Rapids officers tried to stop a black Chevy Tahoe for traffic violations on 33rd Avenue Southwest but the driver, Jamie Hill, didn’t stop. Cedar Rapids PD escalated a chase onto I-380 southbound when Hill took the Highway 30 West exit ramp, lost control and rolled the vehicle several times. He died at the scene.
