Houston was reportedly wanted in Claiborne County, Tennessee, on charges stemming from a previous shooting. The incident occurred in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Hungerford, described as Beechum's estranged boyfriend, was believed to be heading toward Maryland with her. Kentucky State Police initiated a search and located the suspect's vehicle, a Mitsubishi Montero Sport, on U.S. 27 in Lancaster, Kentucky. A brief pursuit ensued, ending near Stanford, Kentucky. On July 15, 2021, at approximately 1:00 p.m., an Edmonson County deputy observed a stolen motorcycle operated by 34-year-old Kristopher M. Burden of Leitchfield, Kentucky, traveling southbound on Highway 259 North in the Kyrock area. Burden made an unlawful turn, nearly striking another vehicle. The deputy initiated a pursuit, which continued as Burden turned west onto Sunfish Bee Spring Road. He failed to negotiate a curve, exited the roadway, struck a road sign and guardrail, and was ejected from the motorcycle. Burden was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Edmonson County Coroner. At approximately 8:45 p.m. on July 6, 2021, officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Dr. W. J. Hodge Street. The driver of the vehicle did not stop. Officers escalated a chase. Police claim that they called off the chase moments before the driver ran a red light on Dr. W. J. Hodge Street and collided with a moped at the intersection of Broadway. The driver of the moped was killed. A second person on the moped was injured. The Kentucky State Police investigated the incident.

On June 30, 2021, U.S. Marshals attempted to serve multiple arrest warrants for 33-year-old Jeremy Andrew Nelson at a residence on Garden Drive in Florence, Kentucky. Upon contact, Nelson allegedly fired a weapon at the officers. A brief standoff ensued, during which Nelson reportedly displayed a firearm again. On April 12, 2021, at approximately 1:36 a.m., Angelina Sue Raad, a 38-year-old white female, was driving her vehicle the wrong way on the inner loop of New Circle Road near Harrodsburg Road in Lexington, Kentucky. She collided head-on with a police cruiser driven by Officer Dawn Miller, who was off duty and heading home after her shift. Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles and transported to a local hospital. Raad was pronounced deceased at around 4 a.m., while Officer Miller sustained serious injuries but was reported to be in stable condition.

On March 29, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Deputy Justin Conley of the Fleming County Sheriff's Office observed a vehicle on Kentucky Route 11 near Maysville, Kentucky, with a male driver and a female passenger who appeared to be involved in a physical altercation. Deputy Conley attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver, 48-year-old Terry Darnell Jackson, exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. During a physical struggle, Deputy Conley opened fire, killing Jackson. Jackson was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Stephen Meadors was contacted at his residence on Dogwood Cove in Corbin, Kentucky, by a neighbor reporting a prowler. Sgt. Meadors went outside and encountered 19-year-old Phillip N. Davenport. An altercation ensued, during which Sgt. Meadors opened fire, killing Davenport.
