On April 8, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers from the St. Joseph Charter Township Police Department conducted a welfare check on a 42-year-old male semi-truck driver from Tennessee in the Fairplain area. Upon arrival, the driver allegedly crashed his semi-truck into a patrol vehicle and then into a nearby home on Riverbend Drive. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers pursued him, and during a subsequent altercation, an officer discharged their firearm, striking the individual. He was transported to Corewell Health Spectrum Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The involved officer sustained minor injuries and was placed on administrative leave, per department policy. The Michigan State Police are investigating the incident.

On March 26, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Clio Police Department officers and Genesee County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a domestic disturbance with shots fired at an apartment complex in the 600 block of North Mill Street in Clio, Michigan. Officers discovered two deceased individuals: 31-year-old Ron Tatro and 51-year-old Kasi Ane Gipe. Tatro was found inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds, while Gipe was located on the building's steps.

The shooter, identified as 28-year-old Eric Adam Bennett, was seen in the middle of the road armed with a shotgun. Police alleged that Bennett pointed the shotgun at them. Officers opened fire. Bennett was struck and pronounced dead at a local hospital. While Tatro and Gipe are mentioned here, they are not counted in this database as their deaths preceded police involvement.

On March 18, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Coldwater Police Department requested assistance from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Emergency Support Team to serve a multi-count felony arrest warrant, including charges of home invasion, on 32-year-old Richard Wilkinson at his residence on Lucky Drive in Coldwater, Michigan. Upon arrival, Wilkinson confronted officers while armed with an AR-style rifle. A member of the MSP Emergency Support Team opened fire, resulting in Wilkinson's death. The trooper was placed on administrative leave. The First District Investigative Response Team and the MSP Lansing Lab are investigating and will submit the findings to the Branch County Prosecuting Attorney.

On March 13, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Detroit Police Department officers attempted to contact a male individual wanted for a violent felony at a residence in the 19000 block of Yonka Street in Detroit. The individual locked himself inside the home. Police escalated a prolonged standoff. Police negotiators tried to establish communication.

At around 8:00 p.m., officers entered the residence and discovered the man deceased on the second floor from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. It is believed he shot himself during the stress of the standoff with police.

On February 10, 2024, at approximately 1:14 a.m., a Van Buren County Sheriff's deputy observed a white 2003 Toyota Camry speeding eastbound on Territorial Road in Keeler Township. The deputy escalated a chase, and the 27-year-old driver, Jose Gonzalez-Gutierrez, did not stop. The chase continued on County Road 681 for approximately 3.5 miles, with speeds reaching near 100 mph. Police alleged that they "momentarily lost sight of the vehicle" and immediately came upon the Camry, which had collided off the road into a tree in the 66000 block of County Road 681 in Lawrence Township. Gonzalez-Gutierrez was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the crash site.

On February 15, 2024, around 3:00 p.m., 29-year-old Dario Agudelo appeared at Café Rica in downtown Battle Creek. Earlier in the day, police had escorted him out of the café due to unspecified unruly behavior. Upon his return, Agudelo was allegedly involved in an assault near the W.K. Kellogg House before officers were dispatched again to detain him.

Agudelo began resisting and stepped toward an officer. The officer fired her Taser, which had no effect. Agudelo reportedly tackled the officer and attempted to disarm her. During the altercation, Agudelo gained control of her firearm and shot her in the leg. A backup officer then opened fire, killing Agudelo. The injured officer was treated and is expected to fully recover.

On February 13, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Southfield Police officers received an ALPR alert on a white 2003 Kia sedan reported stolen out of Detroit on February 5. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Jarrell Dewand Newman III of Taylor, Michigan, did not stop. Police escalated a chase, accelerating speeds northbound on Evergreen Road. Newman lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a reinforced fence near a DTE substation between Westhampton and Westover. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two teenage female passengers were injured and also taken to a hospital. One of the passengers stated that she believed the vehicle was an Uber and was unaware that it had been listed as stolen by police.

On February 11, 2024, at approximately 4:17 p.m., Ionia County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the Walmart and Menards parking lot, where five people had allegedly stolen a vehicle, driven it to Walmart, and stolen another vehicle. They then proceeded to Menards and stole a second vehicle before leaving the area.

An area broadcast was sent to surrounding counties, and Clinton County Deputies located the stolen vehicles. They initiated a high-speed pursuit through Clinton, Eaton, and Ionia Counties. Officers deployed spike strips. The second vehicle, a 2020 Kia Forte, continued northbound on Sunfield Highway near Bippley Road in Sebewa Township, where it lost control and struck a tree. A female passenger from Lansing was pronounced dead at the crash site. The other occupants were transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing with injuries.

On January 16, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers identified a 2009 Pontiac G8 suspected in a recent felonious assault and carjacking on eastbound I-69 near Morrish Road. When troopers attempted a traffic stop, the driver did not stop. Police escalated a pursuit. Police alleged that they "called off the chase" near Hammerberg Road, and immediately thereafter, the vehicle crashed into an MTA bus at the intersection of Saginaw and 9th Streets.

A male rear passenger was pronounced dead at the crash site. The driver sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, while the front passenger was treated for minor injuries. The bus driver and a passenger sustained minor injuries.

On 01/11/2024, deputies from the Eaton County Sheriff's Office responded to a report involving Garrett Freeman, a 33-year-old White male, who had allegedly threatened to harm his ex-girlfriend and engage in a shootout with law enforcement. Days earlier, Freeman was reportedly involved in a domestic violence incident in which he rammed his vehicle into his ex-girlfriend's parked car. On the day of the incident, Freeman was located driving toward his ex-girlfriend's home after reportedly issuing threats.

Deputies attempted to stop Freeman's vehicle, resulting in a brief pursuit that ended near St. Joe Highway and Gates Road in Roxand Township. Deputies forced Freeman's vehicle off the road, immobilizing it. Freeman then exited the vehicle holding a handgun and fired at deputies. Officers opened fire, striking Freeman. He was transported to Sparrow Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Body camera footage released by the Eaton County Sheriff's Office shows Freeman firing at deputies before they opened fire. Following a review, the Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney ruled the deputies' use of deadly force justified due to the immediate threat Freeman posed.

The couple, residents of Farmington Hills, were returning home from a date night and leave behind six children, aged 2 to 9.

On January 1, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist, later identified as 43-year-old David Danjuan Williams, near Rose Street and West Michigan Avenue for a license plate violation. Williams fled, leading to a pursuit that ended near Harrison Street and East Michigan Avenue when his motorcycle experienced mechanical issues. Abandoning the motorcycle, Williams ran through Veteran's Memorial Park and entered the Kalamazoo River in an attempt to evade arrest.

Officers observed Williams struggling against the river's current, which pushed him downstream. He went underwater and did not resurface. Rescue efforts were initiated but were unsuccessful in locating him.

Detroit PD stopped a vehicle for failure to activate turn signal. It is unknown what transpired but the officer fired a taser and was hanging out of the vehicle that tried to leave when the officer fired a shot and killed the unidentified person.

Oakland County deputies chased a vehicle that did not stop. Police attacked the vehicle by PIT maneuver. The driver stopped and allegedly got out with a gun. Police shot and killed him. Police did not say why they chased him. It appears that he had no gun. Police are stonewalling, not providing family with answers. Police released a single still shot, no video. Tony Cox had always told his sister that he feared dying at the hands of police. An eyewitness said he was shot in his back multiple times and was apparently not holding anything.

An alarm went off at Tractor Supply and police arrived and chased 2 teenagers who had been on the roof of the building. Police arrived and two frightened teenagers ran. One was arrested and Joe Paduchowski fled while a K9 was released and somehow landed in a pond and drowned while fleeing from police and their dog. Paduchowski’s father commented on Channel 4 WDIV Detroit’s website that “Our son was a great kid. This was nothing more than a childish prank by two kids that should have never been out on the streets at this time. This is proof positive that you should never take anyone or anything for granted”.

Someone called 911 and reported hearing shots, alleging someone had been shot. Lansing PD arrived, found a man and shot and killed him. Police allege that a handgun was “recovered at the scene” but did not say whether it was on him or had been held, pointed or fired at police or anyone in their presence. No shot or injured persons were reported to have been found. It is unclear from the information released so far why police felt they had to kill this person. A woman called Chippewa Falls PD to report that a man whom she knew and did not want in her home was there and had made both suicidal and homicidal remarks. Chippewa Falls PD, Eau Claire Regional SWAT arrived and created a standoff, sent in a robot and saw that the unnamed man had committed suicide under police duress.

Darrell Jeffery Goodwin was driving a vehicle police felt may be stolen and they escalated a chase. Goodwin was chased into a crash, then tasered an unknown number of times and died several days later in the hospital. It is unknown what his cause of death is, what injuries he sustained and why. Police did not elaborate if he was armed and why they felt it unavoidable to taser and attack him during an investigation of a possibly stolen car.

Detroit police were called to the Garden Bowl on Woodward on a report of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance. When police arrived, 71-year-old Daryl Vance had already left the bar and was no longer causing any problems, witnesses said. Brown aggressively approached Vance and threatened to punch him. The interaction quickly escalated, and Brown punched Vance in the jaw, causing him to fall and strike his head. Brown was left lying and died less than a week after the incident. Vance was on life support for 20 days before he died on Sept. 21 from blunt force trauma to his head. “There was no de-escalation,” Crawford says. “The officer escalated it. He wasn’t defending himself. That’s why Mr. Vance died. This is about seeking justice for Mr. Daryl Vance.”

Oakland County deputies were called to a location where a man was sleeping in a car in a driveway. They arrived, found him asleep and saw a gun next to him. Police opened the door, removed the gun and tried to arrest him. Jaquan Fletcher woke up, tried to put the car in reverse and was shot and killed in the driver’s seat by police.

Muskegon PD were investigating a “shots fired” call as part of a domestic violence call. The man had left the home and was found several hours later near Apple Avenue and Creston Street. An off-duty officer spotted the vehicle but he fled. Several cruisers from 2 different law enforcement agencies began chasing him until the car drove into the ditch. Police tried to arrest the man but he fired a shot at them, inuring Deputy Hankins. Police riddled the vehicle with bullets. Over 2 dozen police vehicles were seen at the scene.
