On April 24, St. Cloud police officers responded to a parking lot in the 200 block of 33rd Avenue South where a man was possibly using drugs in a car and gave police a false name. Officers then told him he was under arrest. He ran toward nearby Heritage Park with police chasing him. One officer used his Taser. Police allegedly lost track of him. Just before 8 a.m. the next day, a passerby reported him dead on a path in Heritage Park. His cause of death was not revealed by police. It is unclear why despite drones and surveillance tactics, police could not locate him on a path after tasering him.

On Monday, December 12th, a sergeant with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department spotted a wanted man on County Road 4 in St. Wendel Township at 10:51 a.m. The sergeant pursued him, but he fled. Police got a call from a nearby construction site that someone had just stolen one of their work trucks. The same man, still fleeing, took out a street pole while escaping in the vehicle. The man fled again until he crashed into another vehicle in St. Cloud at the intersection of 36th Avenue North and 10th Street North. The third-party driver in the other vehicle never regained consciousness and died from his injuries on December 22nd.

On 12/23/2021, around 7 p.m., the Austin Police Department was dispatched to 1201 W Oakland Avenue following a report that Kokou Christopher Fiafonou had forced his way into his ex-wife's residence during a domestic dispute. The ex-wife managed to escape, but Fiafonou remained inside, holding her 13-year-old daughter at knifepoint. Upon arrival, officers encountered Fiafonou with the child, who had been stabbed several times. In the ensuing confrontation, an officer used deadly force, shooting and killing Fiafonou to end the threat. The daughter was hospitalized with serious injuries but survived the attack. The incident is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

On 12/09/2021, around 2 a.m., officers from the Robbinsdale Police Department spotted a stolen black SUV from Minneapolis. They initiated a pursuit which continued into Minneapolis. Police continued to chase until the driver of the SUV lost control at the intersection of Hayes Street Northeast and Northeast Lowry Avenue where the vehicle broke in two upon impact. Shawndale Devon Hickman, aged 16, was one of five juveniles inside the SUV. He died at the scene from blunt-force injuries. Another teenager also died in the crash. The other three occupants were hospitalized with serious injuries. The reason for the fatal chase was that police investigated the car as possibly stolen.
