On August 14, 2024, a deputy from the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department attempted a traffic stop near Old Orchard Road in St. Francois County, Missouri. The driver, identified as 58-year-old Timothy J. King of Moscow Mills, Missouri, failed to yield, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, King's vehicle reportedly rammed the deputy's patrol car multiple times. In response, the deputy discharged his firearm, striking King. Officers at the scene administered first aid, and King was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident, with findings to be reviewed by the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

On June 6, 2024, Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers responded to reports of gunfire at The Links apartment complex in northeast Columbia, Missouri. Upon arrival, an armed man fired at officers, striking a CPD BearCat armored vehicle.

The man then locked himself inside an apartment. CPD deployed its SWAT team, crisis negotiation team, and a mental health liaison from Burrell Behavioral Health. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's bomb squad was also present, and surrounding buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

After an eight-hour standoff, officers breached the apartment using a BearCat vehicle and found the man deceased. It remains unclear whether he sustained the fatal gunshot wound from police gunfire or self-inflicted means.

On April 15, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers from the St. Louis Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Hartford and Bent in the Tower Grove South neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 55-year-old Elizabeth Colletta deceased on the front porch of a residence. As officers approached, 50-year-old Walter Ernest Young Sr. fired shots at them from inside the home, prompting a standoff. The department's SWAT team was deployed, and after several hours of attempted negotiations, officers introduced gas into the residence. Upon entry, they found Young deceased inside. It remains unclear whether his death was self-inflicted or resulted from the exchange of gunfire with police. No officers were injured during the incident.

On February 29, 2024, at approximately 1:10 p.m., court employee Drexel Mack, in his early 40s, attempted to serve an eviction notice at a residence in the 1100 block of Elsea Smith Road in Independence, Missouri. During this process, Mack was shot by Larry Acree, 69, who lived in the home. Officers from the Independence Police Department responded to the scene following the shooting.

As officers arrived, the man opened fire, fatally shooting Officer Cody Allen, 35, and critically injuring another officer. A third officer sustained minor injuries during the exchange of gunfire. Acree was apprehended with minor injuries and taken into custody.

Police arrived for an attempt to arrest Stratmann and claim he grabbed a hammer. They tasered him and then shot and killed him. The cause for the attempted arrest was “mental illness” diagnosed by police themselves. The reason for the arrest was to force him to go to the hospital for online behaviors that displeased local police. He had made provocative comments on their social media pages that caused police to engage undercover police officers to find him. Stratmann had a verbal altercation with police when he entered a courthouse on prior occasion after which police claim he made “terroristic threats” toward them and judges in general. This was turned into an undercover operation to locate him and arrest him for “terroristic threats” which caused his demise. There is no record of him ever having been violent or having engaged in anything other than verbal arguments with police. He was apparently unarmed when killed aside from holding a hammer in his home.

Douglas Alan Phipps allegedly fired shots at the town clock tower. Several O’Fallon officers drove up and eyewitnesses heard between 8 and 15 gunshots. Police allege that Phipps got out of the car with a shotgun. They shot and killed him. An eyewitness said he drove past her slowly, waved with one hand at her and seemed defeated with police chasing him. It is unknown why police escalated this fatal chase leading to a shooting.
