On November 1, 2024, Independence Police officers initiated a high-speed pursuit of Terry James Lewis Jr. for a failed traffic stop on Interstate 470. During the chase, Lewis's vehicle collided head-on with a police cruiser after he attempted a U-turn and drove the wrong way on an exit ramp near I-70. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene, and the officer involved sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

On September 25, 2024, Gregory Maxwell, 37, from Springfield, Illinois, was shot and killed by St. Louis police officers during a mental health crisis. Maxwell, holding a puppy, was seen wandering the Renaissance Financial building on Oakland Avenue. When officers arrived, Maxwell threatened the dog with scissors, then stabbed himself in the neck. After failed attempts to de-escalate, an officer shot Maxwell, who later died at the hospital. The dog survived and is recovering at a local humane society.

Jermaine M. Burnett was wanted for a homicide and was located in the Forest Village Apartment complex in Columbia, MO. Police exchanged fire with him and he was locked in an apartment. On 09/06/2024, a fatal crash occurred on northbound U.S. Route 67 near the Interstate 55 interchange in Jefferson County, Missouri, during a police pursuit. The incident began when officers initiated a chase involving an unidentified individual who was fleeing law enforcement. The fleeing driver collided with a Chrysler Crossfire driven by James Michael Nelson, a 40-year-old man from Barnhart, Missouri.

Nelson sustained critical injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson, where he was later pronounced deceased. The crash also resulted in injuries to Nelson's passenger, Michael W. A store employee at a convenience store called police and asked that David Peter be removed for trespassing. Police arrived and engaged in an altercation with him. He refused to get out of the vehicle and put the vehicle in drive. Deputy jumped on the side of the truck, causing Peter to pin him between the truck and the deputy’s vehicle. Other deputies open fire and shot and killed him.

Missouri State trooper reportedly came upon an accident site and saw a man crawling out of the car. Police claim that he held a knife. Police further alleged that they shouted at him to drop the knife and he did not do so. Police shot and killed him. He was 27-year-old Denis Redondo Zelaya from Honduras. Police said they do not know if he spoke English and understood their commands or not.

On August 14, 2024, a deputy from the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department attempted a traffic stop near Old Orchard Road in St. Francois County, Missouri. On June 6, 2024, Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers responded to reports of gunfire at The Links apartment complex in northeast Columbia, Missouri. Upon arrival, an armed man fired at officers, striking a CPD BearCat armored vehicle.

The man then locked himself inside an apartment. CPD deployed its SWAT team, crisis negotiation team, and a mental health liaison from Burrell Behavioral Health. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's bomb squad was also present, and surrounding buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

After an eight-hour standoff, officers breached the apartment using a BearCat vehicle and found the man deceased. It remains unclear whether he sustained the fatal gunshot wound from police gunfire or self-inflicted means.

On April 15, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers from the St. Louis Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Hartford and Bent in the Tower Grove South neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 55-year-old Elizabeth Colletta deceased on the front porch of a residence. As officers approached, 50-year-old Walter Ernest Young Sr. fired shots at them from inside the home, prompting a standoff. The department's SWAT team was deployed, and after several hours of attempted negotiations, officers introduced gas into the residence. Upon entry, they found Young deceased inside. It remains unclear whether his death was self-inflicted or resulted from the exchange of gunfire with police. No officers were injured during the incident.
