According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, when officers encountered James Reising, he was reportedly agitated and holding a large knife. Officers issued verbal commands for him to drop the weapon, but Reising allegedly ignored commands and continued to pose a threat. Officers fired their weapons, striking Reising. He was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, where he was later pronounced dead. A review by the Cole County prosecutor determined the shooting was justified and no charges were filed against the officers involved.
