A man called 911 to say that he had spotted his neighbor’s stolen truck and there was a man inside passed out. Police began to gather but the truck drove off and a helicopter followed it. The driver drove the wrong way in traffic and turned on to a street next to the Court John Motel.
The male tried to get onto a motorcycle. A foot chase started and he allegedly pulled a firearm out of his pocket. Police shot and killed him.

On December 13, 2021, at approximately 9:00 a.m., deputies from the Torrance County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on West Alan Ayers Road in Estancia. A caller reported that a male, wearing a black hoodie and a red facemask, entered her backyard and fired at least one shot before fleeing westbound on West Alan Ayers Road. A deputy located the man near West Alan Ayers Road and Lassiter Road. For reasons still under investigation, the deputy discharged his duty weapon at least once, striking the man. Despite administering first aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is leading the investigation into the incident.

On December 7, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call at the Las Mañanitas apartment complex near Coors and Montaño in Albuquerque. The victim had previously reported a domestic violence incident at an Allsup's gas station earlier in the day. Upon arrival, deputies arrested Mario Armando Diaz, 41, at the apartment complex. While being transported in a patrol vehicle, Diaz managed to slip one hand out of his handcuffs and attempted to flee. A brief foot pursuit ensued, leading to a physical altercation between Diaz and Deputy Taylor Feist. During the struggle, Deputy Feist called out that Diaz had her gun. In response, Deputy Dereck Gallegos fired two shots, fatally wounding Diaz. The incident was captured on body-worn cameras and a street camera.

Deputy Ronald Perez, a 10-year veteran of the department, was among the responding officers. The man, identified as 18-year-old Elijah Richie, fled the scene on foot after crashing his red SUV into a chain-link fence at Edith Blvd and Nikanda Road. Surveillance footage showed Richie attempting to flee the scene, armed with an AR-15 style pistol and carrying a backpack containing additional firearms. Deputy Perez pursued Richie and, after verbal commands to drop the weapon, fired a single shot, fatally wounding Richie. Richie was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the incident. On November 26, 2021, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a New Mexico State Police officer arrived at a Starbucks on Promenade Boulevard in Santa Fe and was informed by employees that the store had just been robbed by a man and a woman with firearms. They fled in a black Kia without a license plate. A pursuit ensued, with them traveling south on Richards Avenue, then north on Interstate 25, and subsequently south on U.S. 285. During the chase, the female passenger, identified as Christean "Christy" Ann Dimas, fired shots at officers. Officers from the New Mexico State Police, Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, and Torrance County Sheriff's Office returned fire. The vehicle crashed near Clines Corners, and the driver, Jacob Montoya, was apprehended. Dimas was found deceased in the passenger seat. Montoya was airlifted to a nearby trauma center for gunshot wounds and later booked into the Torrance County Detention Facility on multiple charges, including assaulting a peace officer and shooting from a motor vehicle.

On November 9, 2021, at approximately 7:00 a.m., an off-duty Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) officer conducted a welfare check on a single-car crash on I-25 north. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Dagoberto Jimenez, exited the vehicle, threatened the officer with a knife, and carjacked the officer's personal vehicle. The officer reported the incident, and LCPD officers located Jimenez near the intersection of Amador Ave. and Solano Drive. Jimenez fled the scene, driving off the road near S. Esperanza St. and Amador Ave., crashing through a fence, and entering the Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy property. SWAT and negotiators were called in to make contact with Jimenez. During the standoff, a single gunshot was heard, and Jimenez was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers were injured during the incident. Upon arrival, they encountered 28-year-old Jose Angel Baca, who fired at a deputy, striking him. Baca then fled the scene in a white Dodge pickup truck. A "be on the lookout" (BOLO) alert was issued, and VCSO deputies, along with New Mexico State Police (NMSP) officers, located Baca's vehicle and initiated a pursuit. The chase continued through Los Lunas, with Baca eventually crashing near the railroad tracks at State Road 314 and Davila Road. Baca exited the vehicle and began firing at law enforcement officers. In response, two VCSO deputies and one NMSP officer discharged their weapons, fatally wounding Baca. A VCSO deputy was injured by shrapnel during the exchange but was treated and released from the hospital. Baca was pronounced deceased at the scene. At the time of the incident, Baca had recently been released from probation for aggravated battery upon a police officer resulting in great bodily harm, battery on a household member, and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer during arrest. On August 15, 2021, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) observed a stolen vehicle occupied by a male and female near Lomas Blvd. and Louisiana Blvd. The vehicle fled from a traffic stop, prompting officers to deploy a StarChase GPS tracking device, which successfully attached to the vehicle. The vehicle was tracked to Morrow Ave. and Pennsylvania Blvd. NE, where officers discovered the tracking device had been removed. The vehicle was later found unoccupied in a Walmart parking lot at Northeastern Blvd. and Wyoming Blvd. NE. Officers located a male and female matching the descriptions of the individuals who had exited the stolen vehicle. During questioning, the male suspect, identified as Eric Padilla, handed over a knife from his pocket but refused to be patted down. As officers insisted on conducting a search, Padilla fled on foot. Witnesses and video footage indicate that as Padilla ran, he turned slightly to his left and produced a handgun. Both officers fired their weapons, striking Padilla, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A firearm was recovered near Padilla. On July 11, 2021, Shawn Marvin Thomas, 36, was shot and killed by deputies from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office following a pursuit that began on the Navajo Nation. On July 7, 2021, deputies from the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence incident at No. 1 Entrada Capulin in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Edward Daniel Santana, 45, allegedly stabbed his mother, Delia Cervantes, 67, multiple times. Deputies found Santana standing on a patio holding a fence post. On June 23, 2021, deputies from the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office encountered a stolen black Ford Ranger truck. On May 1, 2021, Cuba Police Officer Brandon Roybal Barber allegedly drove a black Ford F-150 pickup truck in the wrong direction on Interstate 25 near Roy Avenue in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Barber's vehicle collided with a black GMC Yukon, killing two occupants. Barber was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide, aggravated DWI, and possession of an open container.

Brandon Roybal Barber, a former probationary officer with the Cuba Police Department, was charged and convicted for the fatal incident on May 1, 2021. On May 1, 2021, Cuba Police Officer Brandon Roybal Barber allegedly drove a black Ford F-150 pickup truck in the wrong direction on Interstate 25 near Roy Avenue in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Barber's vehicle collided with a black GMC Yukon, killing two occupants. Barber was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide, aggravated DWI, and possession of an open container.

Brandon Roybal Barber, a former probationary officer with the Cuba Police Department, was charged and convicted for the fatal incident on May 1, 2021. On April 16, 2021, Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Coyote Canyon Place NW in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Juan James Cordova, 51, was reportedly armed and had fired a shot inside the house and was in mental health crisis per his girlfriend. Officers spent approximately an hour attempting to negotiate with Cordova, urging him to surrender peacefully.

Despite negotiations, Cordova remained uncooperative, holding a firearm and making statements suggesting he intended to provoke a lethal response from the police. At one point, he fired a round, which passed through a window and struck a neighbor's house. When Cordova allegedly pointed his firearm at the officers, Officer Bryce Willsey opened fire and killed him.

Officer Willsey, a member of the Albuquerque Police Department since 2015, had been involved in three prior officer-involved shootings before this incident. In October 2023, Cordova's family filed a lawsuit against the city of Albuquerque and Officer Willsey, alleging excessive force and claiming that Cordova was experiencing a mental health crisis and his death had been avoidable.

On April 15, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Roswell Police Department officers assisted the Chaves County Sheriff's Office during a pursuit involving a white Ford pickup truck that had fled from a deputy during an attempted traffic stop. Roswell officers deployed two sets of tire deflation devices and missed.
The vehicle then entered the parking lot of a bank at 1901 N Main St in Roswell, New Mexico. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Victor Ivan Barron, exited the truck holding a firearm and attempted to run away on foot. Officers Danny Flott and Abrem Atencio, both with the Roswell Police Department, along with Chaves County Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel Lueras, each discharged their firearms, striking and killing Barron.

On April 5, 2021, Danny White, 43, died while being arrested by officers from the Albuquerque Police Department in Northwest Albuquerque, New Mexico. Officers responded to a call at a residence in the 3100 block of Ronda De Lechusas NW. According to police, White suffered a medical episode during the arrest.

On March 21, 2021, at approximately 7:19 p.m., deputies from the Chaves County Sheriff's Office went to a property on 6400 Shadow Road in Dexter, New Mexico, to serve Sergio Gutierrez Chairez, 31, with two outstanding arrest warrants. Upon arrival, deputies observed Chairez outside the residence but were unable to enter due to a locked gate and fencing.

After obtaining a search warrant, deputies entered the property, at which point Chairezlocked himself inside a semi-truck parked on the premises. Negotiations to convince Chairez to surrender were unsuccessful. Deputies eventually breached the semi-truck, and a deputy discharged their firearm, fatally striking Chairez.

On February 20, 2021, Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to reports of a man walking in the street near Copper Avenue NE and San Mateo Boulevard NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon arrival, officers attempted to get the man, later identified as 40-year-old Claude Trivino, to move out of the roadway. Trivino reportedly did not cooperate with the officers' commands.

On February 4, 2021, Omar Felix Cueva, 39, was stopped by New Mexico State Police Officer Darian Jarrott on Interstate 10 near Avenida de Mesilla in Las Cruces, New Mexico, as part of an investigation with Homeland Security Investigations. During the traffic stop, Cueva fatally shot Officer Jarrott.

Cueva fled and continued driving eastbound on I-10. Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies, including the Las Cruces Police Department, New Mexico State Police, Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Border Patrol, pursued him.

Officers pursued a man from the incident in a high-speed chase through the city. The pursuit ended near Virginia Street NE and Lomas Boulevard NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On January 31, 2021, deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a fight involving gunfire in the 1000 block of Atrisco Road SW in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Deputies, who were in the vicinity at the time, encountered a man, later identified as 41-year-old Ezekial Meza, while en route to the scene. Meza reportedly attempted to flee, leading to a confrontation during which deputies opened fire and killed him.
