On 07/08/2021, New York City police officers on patrol in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn responded to the sound of gunfire outside a liquor store near Wilson Avenue. Officers located Steven Leconte and chased him on foot. According to reporting, officers stated that Leconte was holding a firearm and did not put it down during the encounter. Officers engaged Leconte and opened fire, killing him at the scene. Leconte was 53 years old. The New York Attorney General later reviewed the shooting and found it justified. On July 8, 2021, at around 10:30 p.m., officers from the City of New York Police Department responded to reports of gunshots near Halsey Street and Wilson Avenue in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn. Upon arrival, the officers approached a group of people outside a liquor store and discovered three individuals with gunshot wounds.
The officers were informed that an armed man had fled on foot, heading westbound on Wilson Avenue. They pursued him and activated their body-worn cameras. The officers proceeded halfway down the block and located a man crouched on the sidewalk, holding a firearm in his left hand.

The officers ordered the man to drop the weapon. When he allegedly failed to comply and raised the firearm toward the officers, they opened fire, killing him.

On June 12, 2021, officers from the Town of Wallkill Police Department responded to a call from Christopher Van Kleeck’s mother who requested help for her son, who was exhibiting signs of a mental health crisis. The Orange County Crisis Call Center relayed that Van Kleeck had threatened to harm responding officers. When Officer Daniel Graham arrived at the home in Middletown around 3:35 p.m., he observed Van Kleeck chasing a family member on the lawn while holding two knives. Van Kleeck ran toward the patrol car with the knives raised. Officer Graham fired his service weapon through the patrol car windshield three times, striking Van Kleeck. Responding officers and emergency medical services then rendered aid and transported Van Kleeck to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The New York State Office of the Attorney General investigated and concluded that criminal charges were not warranted based on the evidence and applicable law.

Suffolk County Police Officer James Skidmore arrived on the location and approached the vehicle. Upon engaging with Jesse Bonsignore, the officer claimed that Bonsignore exited the car holding a knife and made threats against him. On April 28, 2021, New York State Police identified Barry K. Stewart, 55, concerning a double homicide at BridgeView Real Estate Services in Watertown, New York. A State Police K9 unit spotted Stewart's vehicle, a gray 2020 Ford F-150 pickup truck, on Route 11B in Dickinson, Franklin County. When troopers attempted a traffic stop, Stewart's vehicle left the roadway. Troopers found Stewart inside the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
