On 11/28/2024, Akron Police Department officers were in the Sherbondy Hill neighborhood when they responded to nearby gunfire. During the investigation, officers encountered a man armed with a loaded firearm. One officer, a nearly five-year veteran of the force, shot and killed the man. Officers provided first aid at the scene before the man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation, with a review by the state attorney general's office before submission to a Summit County grand jury. On November 28, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., two Akron Police Department officers were parked at the intersection of East Avenue and Vernon Odom Boulevard, working on a report from a prior unrelated call. They reported hearing gunshots nearby and exited their vehicle to investigate. Shortly thereafter, they encountered 15-year-old Jazmir Tucker, who was seen holding a gun. One officer discharged his weapon, striking Tucker.

Tucker was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Akron Police Department has not disclosed the names of the officers involved. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy.

Paul A. Boldman, 51, reportedly confessed to a friend that he had killed his girlfriend and another man before expressing suicidal intentions. The friend informed law enforcement, who obtained a warrant and arrived at Boldman's residence. When police attempted to arrest him, Boldman shot himself. He was transported to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. The initial victims, Shelby Coats, 29, and Andrew Lause, 30, were found deceased at another location.

On November 18, 2024, James J. Vanest, 68, was fatally shot by police officers during an attempt to arrest him at the Rodeway Inn in Jackson Township, Ohio. Vanest, wanted in West Virginia for federal weapons violations, had a violent criminal history dating back to the 1970s. When authorities tracked him to the motel, he barricaded himself in a room and brandished a firearm. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with the Canton Police and SWAT, attempted to negotiate his surrender but were met with gunfire from Vanest, who shot at officers through windows and walls. A North Canton police officer, serving on the SWAT team, was wounded in the arm during the exchange, requiring surgery. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Vanest. The situation led to the temporary closure of a section of Interstate 77. Two firearms and spent bullet casings were found at the scene.

Police were sent to 200 Cline Avenue in Mansfield for Michael Oswalt, who allegedly had a mental health crisis. In the case of Taylor Cotton, who was shot and killed by police, the incident occurred at the 1200 block of Rosedale Drive in Dayton, Ohio, on a Saturday morning. As of now, the Montgomery County Coroner, Dr. Kent Harshbarger, confirmed the identity of Taylor Cotton. An autopsy report has not been released, but authorities have stated Cotton was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital following the shooting on October 19, 2024. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed publicly​.

Lamine Mahmoudi, 34, was fatally shot by Columbus police on September 10, 2024, at 1:30 AM on North High Street, near the University District police substation. Officers had responded to multiple calls earlier that evening regarding threats involving knives. When Mahmoudi was confronted near the substation with two knives, he did not comply with commands to drop the weapons. Police attempted to subdue him with a stun gun before resorting to gunfire. A man had allegedly shot a friend of his girlfriend ans two other people. SWAT arrived and bore down on the residence. On July 19, 2024, a SWAT situation in Cincinnati, Ohio, ended when the target, Anthony Mathis, died from self-inflicted stab wounds. The police had responded to a domestic assault and were involved in an hours-long standoff with Mathis, who had a knife. He had previously made threats involving a standoff, and despite negotiation attempts, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
