On 03/04/2025, police began searching for 23-year-old Shamar Summerall after he was identified as the shooter in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Mariah Sanders outside the 444 Park Apartments in Richmond Heights, Ohio. Abney was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Mizikar, who was found with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle in the driveway of a home on Saratoga Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a male individual who exited the hotel through a back window. The individual was armed with a handgun and refused to comply with multiple commands to drop the weapon. The individual placed the gun to his own head and then pointed it at officers. On 12/16/2024, Liberty Township police officers responded to a Flock License Plate Reader alert indicating a stolen SUV entering their jurisdiction. Officers located the vehicle parked at the Belmont Plaza Shopping Center with Jason Cain, 31, in the driver’s seat. Police blocked the vehicle in with police cars. Cain responded by trying to drive away, hitting a police car in the process. An officer opened fire, killing Cain. After being shot, the SUV with Cain accelerated and crashed into the front wall of the Harbor Freight store where it stopped. A female passenger was removed by police. Cain was transported to Saint Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in critical condition, where he died on 12/19/2024. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 11:18 p.m., Shelby Police Department Sergeant Noah Kocher and Officer Dominic Ewing arrived at the Arby's restaurant located at 234 Mansfield Avenue in Shelby, Ohio, to serve an arrest warrant on 31-year-old Tyler S. Jacobs. Upon making contact, Jacobs stabbed Sgt. Kocher in the neck with a knife. Despite his injury, Sgt. Kocher managed to distance himself from Jacobs and then shot him. Officer Ewing, positioned at the back entrance, immediately entered the restaurant and provided medical assistance to both Sgt. Kocher and Jacobs. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital, where Jacobs was pronounced deceased. Sgt. Kocher was treated and later released in stable condition.

On November 28, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., two Akron Police Department officers were parked at the intersection of East Avenue and Vernon Odom Boulevard, working on a report from a prior unrelated call. They reported hearing gunshots nearby and exited their vehicle to investigate. Shortly thereafter, they encountered 15-year-old Jazmir Tucker, who was seen holding a gun. One officer discharged his weapon, striking Tucker.
