On June 7, 2021, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Deputy Casey Newton of the Happy Valley Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Jeremiah Lee Wright for operating a motor vehicle without license plates. Wright did not stop. Deputy Casey Newton initiated a high-speed chase up to 100 mph that ended when Wright crashed into a fence at the intersection of SE 122nd Avenue and SE Eagle Glenn Drive.

Wright ran away, and Deputy Newton chased him on foot until Wright stopped and turned toward the deputy. He was allegedly armed, and Deputy Newton opened fire, killing him.

A grand jury reviewed the incident and determined that Deputy Casey Newton's use of deadly force was justified and reasonable under Oregon law.

On May 12, 2021, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers from the Gervais Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Depot Court in Gervais, Oregon. They discovered 22-year-old Arik Reed suffering from a gunshot wound after attempting to prevent the kidnapping of 17-year-old Oliver "Ollie" Taylor. Kenneth William Peden III fled the scene with Taylor in a white Ford F-150 truck.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Marion County Sheriff's Office, the Silverton Police Department, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, escalated a chase during which police engaged in a shootout. Taylor was found with a gunshot wound and transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries on May 19, 2021. Police have not disclosed who shot and killed Taylor during the shootout. Law enforcement has not released ballistics reports to confirm which bullet caused Taylor's death. A grand jury cleared the officers involved, determining that either way, the use of force was justified.

On April 22, 2021, at approximately 7:15 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff's Office received reports of a reckless driver in a red Mitsubishi Eclipse near Port Orford, Oregon. Witnesses reported the driver engaging in dangerous behaviors, including speeding, swerving between lanes, making sudden U-turns, and speeding through town at 60 mph.
The Oregon State Police and Bandon Police Department jointly escalated a pursuit. An Oregon State Police trooper located the vehicle near mile marker 247 on U.S. Highway 101, near Belloni Boys Ranch. A minor collision occurred between the trooper’s vehicle and the red Mitsubishi, prompting the driver to flee southbound on the highway.
The driver then crossed over the double yellow line and collided head-on with a vehicle in the opposite lane.

On 03/27/2021, Landon J. Payne’s spouse called 911 requesting non-police assistance for a mental health and drug crisis. Police were dispatched instead. After arriving, Lane County sheriff’s deputies determined Payne had an outstanding warrant and attempted to arrest him. Deputies said Payne resisted. Deputies deployed Tasers multiple times and handcuffed him. Payne was placed into a patrol vehicle, where officers observed signs of medical distress, including incoherent speech and erratic movement. Deputies transported Payne to jail. Upon arrival, deputies removed him from the vehicle, restrained him on the ground, and held him facedown while applying pressure to his back and head for an extended period. Payne lost consciousness and died shortly afterward. His family disputed the deputies’ account and filed a civil lawsuit alleging excessive force, repeated Taser use, and positional asphyxia during restraint. No deputies were criminally charged.

On February 23, 2021, around 7:30 p.m., Jackson County Sheriff's Office deputies and Eagle Point Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a firearm in the 100 block of Idlewood Drive in Eagle Point. Before officers arrived, 39-year-old Dale Arthur Amstutz-Dunn left the location in an SUV with another man. Police stopped the vehicle on Stevens Road near Idlewood Drive, in the parking lot of Church on the Hill. Amstutz-Dunn produced a firearm and shot a deputy in the chest; however, the deputy's body armor prevented serious injury. During the ensuing shootout, Amstutz-Dunn diedfrom alleged suicide. A grand jury later found that the officers' use of force was justified.
