Hoffman, who was reported to have arrived at a residence on Anthony's Road in Foster Township carrying a rifle, waving it around, and screaming unintelligibly.

On 11/17/2021, Altoona City Police Department personnel responded to a courthouse holding cell incident at 615 Fourth St involving a detained individual and corrections officer Rhonda Jean Russell. During the confrontation the detained individual gained control of a firearm inside the cell area. An officer fired toward the detained individual and struck Russell. She died from the gunshot wound. On 08/03/2021, the Plymouth Township Police Department responded to a call at the Plymouth Gardens apartments around 11:30 p.m. in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 22-year-old man with a handgun outside the building. A woman was also present, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police shot and killed him.

On 07/29/2021, George Tratras called 911 and reported that he had killed his parents. Initially cooperating with police, Tratras later fled during an exchange of gunfire. Officers from the Mt. Lebanon Police Department located him near US-19 and McLaughlin Run Road in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, where he was found deceased from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The incident is under investigation.

Robert Uhler was found guilty of numerous incidents of child, sexual abuse. During an attempt to arrest him, he reportedly pulled a gun when US Marshals found him. One or more marshals open fire, killing him.

On July 22, 2021, around 6:30 p.m., a large fight erupted in the 3000 block of North Water Street in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood. Carlos Rodriguez, 40, produced a handgun and allegedly began firing into the crowd, with two shots directed toward responding plainclothes officers. Officers Suarez and Lesesane discharged their weapons, firing at least six shots, fatally striking Rodriguez.
