On 02/23/2021, a Berkeley County sheriff’s deputy was responding to another agency’s request to assist with a vehicle pursuit. At the intersection of U.S. 52 and Shelly Street in Bonneau, Julia Georgiadis was attempting to make a turn when the deputy’s patrol vehicle collided with her car. Georgiadis was killed in the crash, and a passenger in her vehicle was injured. The collision later became the subject of a civil lawsuit.

On 02/18/2021, Greenville County sheriff’s deputies went to a mobile home on Gibson Oaks Drive in Greer to serve an arrest warrant. Deputies reported that William Clayton Blackwell grabbed a firearm during the encounter, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Blackwell was shot and transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Officers were investigating an allegedly stolen moped at 1:15 a.m. at a Circle K. A struggle ensued between the officers and a man, during which police stated the man pulled out a gun. Officers shot and killed him.

On February 10, 2021, at approximately 4 p.m., Spartanburg County deputies initiated a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop. Police escalated a pursuit that was described as reckless with excessive speed through heavy traffic and proximity to a school zone. The deputy finally called off the chase near Paradise Lane moments before a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper spotted the vehicle near East Blackstock Road and Hidden Hill Road and took over the chase. The trooper allegedly also called off the chase again as the vehicle collided with a 2015 Honda Accord driven by 36-year-old bystander Jessica Ruth Munyon near the intersection of East Blackstock Road and Bradford Drive.

On February 2, 2021, a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation. Wayne Keith "Weezie" Smith Jr. reportedly fled when the deputy activated his emergency lights. The deputy pursued at speeds reaching 90 mph. The pursuit ended when Smith’s vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree, resulting in his death.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. on January 29, 2021, Valentin Gonzalez De La Cruz, the driver of a GMC Sierra, drove through the gate at the North Charleston Terminal. The South Carolina Port Authority Police Department initiated a chase and collided with the vehicle of Gonzalez De La Cruz, killing him.

The vehicle, occupied by Victor Addotta, 33, of Columbia, and Sara Hudson, 28, of Pelion, had been spray-painted to conceal its emblems and bore expired tags. During the pursuit, the vehicle reportedly struck a deputy's car multiple times. The chase continued through Northeast Richland County, culminating in a head-on collision with a cement mixer at the intersection of Screaming Eagle Road and Percival Road. Both Addotta and Hudson sustained fatal injuries in the crash. There were 2 fatalities.

On 01/13/2021, South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated a pedestrian traffic fatality when a vehicle bystander accidentally drove through the collision scene and struck the dead pedestrian, James Jackson, and continued driving. A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper escalated a chase on North Road with lights and sirens. During the chase, Patricia Brickle, driving a Chevrolet, pulled out from the Citgo gas station and was struck by the trooper’s vehicle, killing her.

On 01/11/2021, at approximately 1:17 a.m., deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance call involving a white male armed with a knife, making several attempts to attack residents at a trailer park. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Daryl Dye, who had a knife and was running toward them. Deputies shot and killed him.

On 01/03/2021, at approximately 5 p.m., deputies from the Chester County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence located at 4374 SC-9, Richburg, South Carolina. The call stated that Tre-Kedrian Tyquan White was outside the homewith a handgun and causing a disturbance. Police escalated a chase that lasted until White crashed his vehicle, and allegedly attempted to carjack a deputy in an unmarked car. The deputy shot and killed him.

On 01/03/2021, a Charleston County Sheriff’s deputy was responding with lights and siren to a call shortly before midday when the patrol vehicle collided with a civilian car at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Beehive Road near Mount Pleasant. The deputy’s vehicle struck the civilian vehicle as it attempted to make a left turn. Sandra Eisner, 77, was among the occupants of the civilian car and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. An 85-year-old passenger also died in the collision. The deputy involved was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Later reporting indicated the deputy was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Eisner’s estate accepted a settlement from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office in a wrongful death lawsuit related to the crash.

On 01/03/2021, Sonny Brower was traveling on U.S. Highway 17 near Beehive Road in Mount Pleasant when a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle struck his car. Authorities said the deputy was driving at a high rate of speed while responding to a reported domestic disturbance call. The patrol vehicle collided with the civilian vehicle, killing Brower at the scene. Sandra Eisner, a 77 year old woman traveling in the same vehicle, was also killed. The deputy survived and later received a traffic citation. Brower’s family pursued civil action related to the crash.
