A massive manhunt was underway for several days, attracting additional attention due to the fact that Drake was the son of the current Nashville police chief John Drake. On 10/24/2023, after several days of a massive public manhunt after him, police received a call that he had stolen a vehicle at gunpoint and driven away in it. Police spotted the stolen vehicle on Thompson Lane and escalated a chase that ended when he crashed into a parked car. When police moved toward the vehicle, they found Drake dead, having committed suicide under police duress during the chase.

Agents with the 23rd Judicial Drug Task Force pulled over an SUV on I-40 east at the Dickson exit just before midnight Thursday for undisclosed reasons. With the driver and the passenger outside of the vehicle, an officer performed a search when the driver allegedly grabbed the officer and took his gun.He reportedly did not harm the officer but jumped back into the SUV and backed it into the agent’s patrol cruiser in an attempt to escape. A second officer shot and killed him.
