Elijah Charles Morley, 22, was driving through unincorporated Anderson County when a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper initiated a chase across multiple roads and ending with both the trooper and Morley crashing near the intersection of Mountain Road and Highway 441. Morley was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Dustin Dienst died at the hospital. Police did not disclose the reasons they initiated the fatal chase

Landon Eastep was sitting on a guardrail of I-65 when multiple cruisers from Mt. Joliet PD and Tennessee Highway Patrol approached him. Police allege that he held a “shiny cylindrical object”, later identifying it to be a box cutter. Nine officers opened fire and killed him.

Millington PD notified Shelby County deputies and they jointly approached a vehicle accused of driving erratically. Police state that they saw a rifle in the vehicle and SWAT appeared. John Hunt barricaded himself in the vehicle and fled under police bearing down on him. Police allege he damaged some police vehicles in the process of evading them and further allege that he fired shots ad police chasing him. When he reached a dead end, he reportedly exited the vehicle with the rifle and was shot dead by SWAT

Dandridge PD were sent on a welfare check on 68-year-old Floyd Michael Woody. Police apparently arrived with SWAT. Woody was unwilling to come outside. Police state that he eventually came outside and got into a vehicle and was engaged by an officer in a physical altercation, whereupon a Jefferson County deputy and an officer with the White Pine Police Department shot and killed him. He was not reported to be armed and it is unclear why police killed him.

This is the second crash fatality from the accident involving officer Carille Cortez Jones of Memphis PD whose cruiser collided with an unknown blue car whose driver was widely reported as having been killed but was never named by the PD.

Police Officer CJ Jones was killed in a vehicle crash at the intersection of East Shelby Drive and Pleasant Hill Road at about 2:30 am. On December 16, 2021, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department responded to a report of an abandoned Chevrolet Impala with its doors open on Old Hickory Boulevard West in Madison. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire from a nearby wooded area. Officers arrived and believed the gunfire was directed toward them. For about 40 minutes, they repeatedly ordered the individual to surrender. The individual, later identified as 39-year-old Anthony Marcell Phillips, emerged from the woods, appeared to ingest a substance, and shouted expletives. He then fired two shots at the officers. Officer Ricardo Cruz returned fire with a shotgun, fatally wounding Phillips. A semi-automatic 9 mm pistol was recovered from the scene. Phillips had a warrant for tampering with an electronic monitoring device and was a convicted sex offender. No officers were injured in the incident. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the shooting.

On December 15, 2021, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Memphis Police officers were investigating a stolen 2014 Ford Fusion reported missing from Olive Branch, Mississippi. The vehicle was located in the drive-thru line of a McDonald's restaurant at 3120 S 3rd St in Memphis. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Kayla Lucas, accelerated in reverse, striking a police vehicle. An officer opened fire, striking Lucas, who was pronounced dead at the scene.The family of Kayla Lucas filed a lawsuit, claiming that the use of force was excessive and wrongful, asserting that Lucas posed no immediate threat to officers when she was shot.

On December 10, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., dispatchers received reports of a pickup truck traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-40 near mile marker 311 in Cumberland County. Deputies located the unoccupied vehicle on the shoulder of the interstate. Another deputy found the driver, identified as 55-year-old David Denman Talbert of Cookeville, standing on the outside lane of the interstate. When instructed to show his hands, Talbert held a handgun and advanced toward the deputy. The deputy fired at Talbert, killing him. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) investigated the case.

On 12/04/2021, a Tusculum police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle did not stop. Police escalated a chase at 104 mph. The officer activated emergency lights and sirens to pursue the vehicle, which continued eastbound toward Washington County. During the pursuit, Morrow rear-ended Anna Pearson's 2012 Toyota Scion hatchback, killing her.

On 11/20/2021, a 27-year-old male driver died following a police pursuit that began in Catoosa County, Georgia, and ended in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Georgia State Patrol initiated the chase after attempting to stop a speeding Hyundai Sonata on I-75. During the pursuit, the vehicle's passenger fired multiple shots at pursuing troopers. The chase continued into Tennessee, where the pursued vehicle lost control and crashed on Highway 153 near Boy Scout Road. The driver was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

On 11/08/2021, police responded to a report of a person with a weapon at 10619 US-41 in Monteagle, Tennessee. Upon arrival, 50-year-old Angie Marie McFarland allegedly pointed a gun at an officer. In response, the officer fired their weapon, fatally shooting McFarland. Details surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and the officer involved has not been publicly named.

On October 30, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Cleveland officers received a report that 50-year-old Matthew James Riggs was threatening to harm himself and was armed with a weapon. Officers located Riggs' vehicle in the 1000 block of Cottage Stone Lane and initiated a traffic stop. During the encounter, officers allegedly heard a gunshot. Police open fire killing Riggs. It remains unconfirmed, whether he fired any shots or not. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) conducted an independent investigation into the circumstances leading to the shooting. The officer involved has not been publicly named.

Officers and deputies spotted a car traveling along the Appalachian Highway that was the subject of a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) in connection to a robbery that occurred about 7 p.m. in Jacksboro. Officers escalated a pursuit onto the freeway, I-75, and chased the vehicle at high speed until the driver crashed into several vehicles stopped in a construction zone, including a cruiser driven by a trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol who was parked behind a disabled vehicle on the highway. During reported efforts to take the driver into custody, a Caryville officer and a Campbell County deputy shot and killed him.

On October 21, 2021, Memphis and Bartlett police attempted to stop a teenage driver with active warrants for aggravated assault. The driver briefly stopped but then hit a Bartlett squad car while fleeing. Memphis police pursued the vehicle but alleged that they lost sight of him on Elvis Presley Blvd. near Winchester. As the driver approached Raines Road from Elvis Presley Blvd., he crashed into another vehicle driven by bystander Marvin Honey who was on his way to the grocery store, and after the massive crash was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

On October 12, 2021, at approximately 11:40 a.m., members of the Knoxville Police Department's Special Operations Squad were assisting agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Drug Investigation Division and the 5th Judicial Drug Task Force in executing a search warrant at a residence in the 2900 block of Sevier Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered 43-year-old Bryan Calvin with a gun. Preliminary reports indicate that Lee pointed the firearm at officers. They engaged him in a shootout and killed him. Lee was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

On October 7, 2021, at approximately 9:06 a.m., Cleveland Police Department officers responded to a mental disturbance call at a residence on the 700 block of Springhill Drive NE. Upon arrival, three officers encountered 71-year-old Lloyd Grant McClung Jr., who was armed with a shotgun. Despite repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon, McClung advanced toward the officers and fired a round from his shotgun. Two officers opened fire, striking McClung. McClung was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On October 6, 2021, at approximately 6:00 a.m., correctional officers with the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office were outside the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex when they were allegedly threatened by an armed individual. Three officers from the Bolivar Police Department responded, but the man had already fled. Shortly thereafter, the individual returned, exited his vehicle while still armed, and confronted the officers. The officers shot and killed 43-year-old Andra Davon Murphy.

Additional Information: The family of Andra Davon Murphy has retained attorney Ben Crump, asserting that Murphy was not the individual who initially threatened the correctional officers and is seeking the release of video footage to clarify the events leading to his death. There is no followup information at this time.

The incident occurred in the parking lot near the Country Café at 605 Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, Tennessee. During the attempted arrest, police engaged him in a shootout, resulting in the death of Wellman and the critical injury of an ATF agent, who was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. No Metro Nashville Police Department officers were injured or discharged their weapons during the incident.

Additional Information: Wellman had an active federal warrant for his arrest related to a months-long drug investigation initiated in June 2021, which included undercover heroin purchases. Family and friends have questioned the circumstances of the arrest, expressing concerns about the methods used by the ATF agents and whether they properly identified themselves during the operation.

On October 1, 2021, officers from multiple agencies, including the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Chattanooga Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Soddy-Daisy Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, were searching for 27-year-old James Michael Farris, who had been added to the TBI Most Wanted list earlier that day. Farris was wanted in connection with the murder of Frederick Williams, who was shot on September 29, 2021. He reportedly had a firearm and pointed it at officers, prompting a Hamilton County deputy to fire his weapon, striking Farris. Farris was transported to a Chattanooga hospital, where he died from his injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.

On October 1, 2021, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a Rogersville police officer spotted a truck on Main Street that was the subject of a "Be On the Lookout" (BOLO) alert from Hamblen County. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, 32-year-old Buster Lee Carpenter, made a U-turn and crashed into the side of a house. As the officer approached the truck, Carpenter reversed, striking the officer's vehicle. Carpenter then drove the truck toward the officer, who fired shots into the vehicle, striking Carpenter. Carpenter was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The officer was not injured during the incident.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the circumstances leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for further review and consideration. The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and refers questions of that nature to the respective department.

Adrian Lamont Cameron Sr., a 47-year-old Black male, was wanted for a state parole violation and was being questioned in a homicide case. Police located him at a Days Inn motel in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 18, 2021. After a woman exited the motel room and was escorted away, Cameron emerged with an AR-15 and fired at officers, who shot and killed him.

Andrew "Drew" Brandon Christian, a 34-year-old White male, was killed by police during an arrest attempt on September 16, 2021, at a residence on Ptarmigan Trail in Memphis, Tennessee. At approximately 12:40 p.m., officers from the Memphis Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve arrest warrants at the home. Upon entering the residence, officers were fired upon. Officers opened fire in response. Officers exited the house, with two sustaining injuries after jumping through a window. Deputies later entered the home and found Christian dead from a gunshot wound.

Antonio Jackson, a 26-year-old Black male, was shot and killed by a Shelby County Sheriff's deputy on August 16, 2021, in Memphis, Tennessee. Katelyn L. Harris, a 29-year-old White female, was shot and killed by deputies with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office on August 15, 2021, in Chuckey, Tennessee. Deputies recognized Harris, who reportedly had outstanding felony warrants, driving on John B. Dennis Highway and attempted a traffic stop. Harris fled, leading deputies on a pursuit onto Interstate 81 and into Greene County. She turned north on Jearoldstown Road before going off the roadway. A passenger exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. Deputies reportedly observed Harris holding a gun. Harris allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated toward deputies, at which point three deputies opened fire, killing her.

Daniel Turney Crowley, a 31-year-old male, was shot and killed by officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department on August 11, 2021, in Nashville, Tennessee. At approximately 5:00 a.m., an officer conducted a business check at a Cricket Wireless store and noticed a vehicle with an Alabama license plate parked outside. The officer approached the vehicle and observed that the man inside had a knife, prompting a call for backup at 5:05 a.m. Additional officers arrived at 5:06 a.m., and shortly after, Crowley reportedly exited the vehicle and charged the officers with a knife. Officers opened fire and fatally shot Crowley at 5:07 a.m.

Around 10:34 p.m. on August 6, 2021, Clarksville Police Department officers responded to 681 Ellie Nat Drive regarding a report of a person attempting to cut another person with a knife. Upon arrival, officers found a victim who had sustained injuries from a knife. The man entered the residence, allegedly to retrieve a firearm, leading to a standoff lasting nearly 12 hours. At approximately 9:41 a.m., the individual was found deceased inside the residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Antonio D. King, a 22-year-old Black male, was shot and killed by officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department on August 3, 2021, near the intersection of Antioch Pike and Franklin Limestone Road in Nashville, Tennessee. Earlier, King allegedly opened fire inside a Smile Direct Club facility, wounding three people. Metro Police officers responded to the active shooter incident and fatally shot King at the scene.

David Wade Gaither, a 49-year-old White male, died by suicide during a domestic disturbance incident on July 24, 2021, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department responded to a call around 10:40 p.m. about a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Gaither’s wife reported he had been acting belligerent and punching holes in the walls and doors. As officers entered the residence, Gaither exited a bedroom, pointed a handgun at one of the officers, and reportedly pulled the trigger, but the pistol malfunctioned. Gaither then followed officers outside, firing two more shots at them in the front yard before retreating inside. After receiving no response, officers entered the home and found Gaither deceased in a bedroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Kantrell DeShawn Head, a 30-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 17, 2021, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Police responded to a home on Scott Drive after reports of a domestic disturbance. Officers removed a child from the home and surrounded Head, who was reportedly threatening suicide. Shortly after, Head shot and killed himself.

Markell J. Nevels, a 19-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 9, 2021, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Police responded to the Campus Crossings Apartments around 10:40 a.m. after a report of a stolen vehicle. The owner of the white Lexus told police that Nevels was looking through the glove compartment and then pointed a handgun at him before fleeing in the car. The pursuit ended in front of the Regal Inn when Nevels allegedly rammed three Murfreesboro Police Department vehicles, a Rutherford County SUV, and a citizen's car. Nevels then fatally shot himself.

Dorris "DJ" Acree, a 23-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 8, 2021, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Around 6 a.m., officers with the Clarksville Police Department attempted to serve a narcotics search warrant at an apartment on Cobalt Drive. An hours-long standoff ensued, during which officers tried to negotiate with Acree. Following the standoff, Acree was found deceased inside the apartment from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Lisa Ann Short, a 54-year-old White female, was shot and killed by officers from the Kingsport Police Department on July 1, 2021, in Kingsport, Tennessee. Officers responded to a call from a resident at the Westside Inn around 5:20 a.m. The caller reported that a woman with a gun was banging on his door. Upon arrival, officers encountered Short, who was reportedly armed with a gun. Police stated that she failed to comply with orders to drop the weapon, and officers shot and killed her.

An off-duty Memphis Police Department officer, Antonio Marshall, was driving a 2019 Dodge Charger eastbound on Walnut Grove Road at a high rate of speed when he struck a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville near Timber Creek Drive. The impact killed Morris and 19-year-old Travis Parham, who were in the Bonneville. Marshall’s vehicle was reportedly moving at 99 mph in a 45 mph zone. Marshall sustained non-critical injuries and was taken to Regional One Hospital.

Michael Anthony Frederick, a 54-year-old White male, was shot and killed by deputies from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office on June 25, 2021, in McDonald, Tennessee. Deputies responded to a mental health call at the 200 block of Spring Branch Road. Upon arrival, Frederick reportedly had a weapon out, and deputies fatally shot him.

Nathaniel "Nate" Damien Raabe, a 48-year-old male, was shot and killed by deputies from the Macon County Sheriff's Office on June 15, 2021, in Westmoreland, Tennessee. Deputies responded to a report of a man with a gun acting irrationally and frightening residents. Upon arrival, they encountered Raabe with a rifle. He reportedly fired at deputies. They opened fire. Raabe then retreated inside the home. When additional deputies arrived, Raabe exited the home, initially put the rifle to his head, and then fired on deputies again, striking Sgt. Petty twice. Deputies opened fire, killing Raabe.
