On 07/23/2022, a Missouri City Police Department officer located a vehicle reported stolen in an aggravated robbery at a Texaco at Fondren Road and Main Street in southwest Houston. Police followed the vehicle and the driver refused to stop. The vehicle stopped in front of a home in the 15500 block of Corsair Road and the driver fired, striking Missouri City Police Officer Crystal Sepulveda in the face and foot, then left the area on foot. Multiple agencies established a perimeter near Winter Briar Drive, where police located Jeffrey Bundrent Jr. in a backyard. Police said he fired again and officers opened fire, striking him multiple times. He was transported to a hospital and later died.

Harris County sheriff's deputies had been chasing carjackers into a fatal crash on Imperial Valley Drive near Remington Valley when the vehicle being chased crashed into a tree and then a home, ejecting 4 people.
Two of them died, two are in critical condition, and a fifth is in serious condition after being cut out of the vehicle.

On 07/14/2022, Dallas Police Department officers responded to a call in the 12100 block of Audelia Road. Officers encountered 32 year old Jorge Saldenos Escobar Flores during the response. Police reported he had a gun during the encounter. Officers opened fire and shot him. He was transported to a hospital where he later died. The Dallas Police Department Special Investigations Unit conducted the criminal investigation and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the shooting.

Police received a call about a shoplifting and assault and claim that when they arrived, Roderick Brooks fled. Police tried to tase him but he allegedly took the Taser from police. Officer Garrett Hardin shot him at close range in the back of the neck, killing him. Family states that the bodycam video does not match the police narrative. Officer Garrett was placed on desk duty and indicted. On 11/4/2024, he was found not guilty.

Santa Fe Police escalated a chase when a pickup truck was clocked at going 96 mph in a 55 mph zone and the truck did not stop for police. Police allege that he eventually stopped and fired shots at police. A patrol vehicle was shot three times. Police allege that the driver, Christopher Ortega, went into the water where he reportedly stabbed himself in the chest and pounded the knife deeper into his chest, police claim. He eventually drowned in the waters of Highland Bayou, which feeds into Galveston Bay.

On 06/23/2022, a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office deputy initiated a traffic stop at approximately 10:17 p.m. in the 2400 block of Naill Road in Fresno. During the stop, the 21-year-old Latino driver exited the vehicle and engaged physically with the deputy. The deputy fired his weapon during the struggle, striking the driver. Emergency medical personnel transported the man to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The deputy sustained injuries during the encounter and was treated and released. The Texas Rangers led the investigation in coordination with the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office.

Franklin Police attempted to pull over 18-year-old Demarcus King, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, for going 80 mph in a 60 mph zone. He did not stop and police escalated a high-speed chase from Franklin down Highway 79 to Highway 6 south of Hearne where speeds reached up to 115-120 mph. King hit an embankment near a railroad bridge. He then got out of the car and shot himself.

Police stated Clemons ran from officers while holding a handgun. Officers pursued him on foot. During the pursuit, officers opened fire and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police reported a firearm was recovered nearby. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the shooting as part of standard officer-involved shooting protocol.

During the stop, police stated Lopez exited the vehicle and produced a handgun. Officers opened fire and shot him. Officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
