On 04/11/2021, Del Rio police shot and killed 34 year old Crystal Jean Alcozer following a call involving a reported disturbance at a residence on West Gutierrez Street. Residents told police that a woman carrying a weapon attempted to take an item from their yard and tried to force her way into the home. By the time officers arrived, Alcozer had left the area on foot.
Police located Alcozer a short distance away near Gillis Avenue. During the encounter that followed, officers opened fire and shot her. Alcozer, a Del Rio resident, was transported for medical care and later died from her injuries. Public obituary records identified Alcozer and marked her death the day after the shooting. Reporting following the incident focused on police accounts of the encounter and confirmation of her identity.

San Marcos Police Department officers responded to a report of a man walking in traffic on southbound I-35 around 12:19 a.m. Upon arrival, officers saw Rescue Eram walking along the retaining wall and crossing traffic. The DPS Trooper, Trooper Brady Germeroth, identified a traffic violation on another eastbound vehicle and made a U-turn. As the patrol vehicle re-entered the eastbound lane, the Mack truck driver swerved into the westbound lane, striking a 2019 Jeep Wrangler head-on. The truck continued to swerve and struck the back right side of the DPS vehicle, which then overturned and caught fire. The driver of the truck and the trooper were not injured. Melanie Painter, the driver of the Jeep, was killed in the crash.

On 03/11/2021, deputies from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office went to 5102 Avenue S 1/2 in Galveston to serve a warrant in connection with alleged narcotics activity. When they entered the residence, 50 year old William Anthony Morris II reportedly had a firearm and refused officers’ orders to drop it. According to law enforcement accounts, deputies shot Morris after he allegedly pointed the gun at them. Morris was pronounced dead at the scene.
