The fleeing vehicle then crashed into a light pole, causing a fire. While firefighters attempted to pull him from the vehicle, the man fatally shot himself. Kyren Lacy, 24, a former LSU wide receiver and 2025 NFL Draft prospect, died by suicide under police duress on April 12, 2025, following a police pursuit in Houston, Texas. Authorities responded to a report of Lacy discharging a firearm during a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, deputies learned Lacy had left and they escalated a pursuit and chased him until he crashed on Aldine Westfield Road. Deputies found Lacy deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On April 8, 2025, Bexar County deputies responded to a welfare check at a home on the 8000 block of Wayword Trail in Converse, Texas. A family member had requested help after the man was involved in a minor crash earlier that day. When deputies arrived, the man fired two shots at their vehicle. Deputies took cover and used a loudspeaker to urge him to surrender. After an extended standoff, the man shot himself outside the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police responded to a domestic violence call on Holly Oak Street where a man had allegedly tried to run over a woman. The man drove off in a Nissan Altima. Around 2 a.m., officers spotted the vehicle westbound on I-20 and began a pursuit that ended near Sanger in Denton County. After stopping, the man did not respond to commands. A drone showed signs of medical distress. Officers approached, administered Narcan, and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Narcotics were found in the vehicle. The man’s name has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.

On March 23, 2025, San Antonio Police responded to a domestic violence call around 2:15 p.m. at a residence near Tahoka Boulevard and Julia Place. A woman had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Max Dominguez, 27. When the officer arrived, Dominguez partially opened the door but refused entry. The officer pushed the door open, causing Dominguez to fall back on a bed. Dominguez then grabbed a machete and rose toward the officer. The officer opened fire and shot Dominguez, who later died at the hospital. The department confirmed prior incidents at the residence and Dominguez’s past record, which included violent offenses.

Ruben Martinez was shot and killed by South Padre Island police on March 20, 2025, after officers responded to a disturbance call at a hotel on Gulf Boulevard. Martinez, who had active felony warrants, allegedly fled the scene and broke into a nearby condo. Police say he was armed and encountered officers near the stairwell of the building. During the encounter, officers opened fire and killed him. Details about what provoked the shooting were not disclosed. Texas Rangers are investigating.

On March 18, 2025, Amarillo Police Department officers responded to the 4900 block of Southwest 16th Avenue, where 33-year-old Zane Calum Prescott was sitting inside his car, with a gun. Negotiators engaged with Prescott for several hours, attempting to convince him to surrender. During the standoff, police discovered he was violating a protective order that prohibited him from possessing a firearm. An arrest warrant was issued, and when officers attempted to take him into custody, Prescott rammed through a fence at the south end of his home and drove off. Police pursued him to Bushland, where his vehicle stalled at Bushland Road and Wind River Drive. Prescott was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On March 18, 2025, just after midnight, Brazoria County Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 20-year-old male driver along Highway 6 near Kirby Drive in Manvel. The stop was initiated for failure to maintain a signal-marked lane. During the stop, the driver informed deputies that he had a firearm in his vehicle. As a deputy began searching the vehicle, the driver reached through the passenger side, retrieved the gun, and ran into a wooded area. While fleeing, the driver died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation is ongoing.

On March 18, 2025, around 2:35 a.m., an Allen Police Department officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on southbound US 75. The driver, later identified as Jonathan Jaramillo, refused to stop. Officers escalated a brief pursuit that ended within a minute when Jaramillo lost control and crashed into a wooded area along the service road. The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side, pinned against a tree. Jaramillo was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

On March 17, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers from the South Padre Island Police Department responded to a disturbance call at a condominium complex located in the 100 block of East Retama Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man who was reportedly involved in the disturbance. During their attempt to de-escalate the situation, he allegedly produced a firearm, prompting officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in his death. The Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the incident.

On 03/16/2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a San Antonio police officer conducted a traffic stop on Loop 410. The driver, Albert Lee, 43, exited the vehicle from the passenger side and fled on foot, jumping fences and running through alleys. During the chase, Lee allegedly pulled a knife. Police fired a Taser, but it was ineffective. Officers opened fire, killing him. A five-inch knife was recovered at the scene, and a firearm was found in Lee's vehicle. Lee had been on parole.
