A DPS trooper executed a PIT maneuver on Interstate 35E, causing the fleeing vehicle to spin into the wrong lane and collide head-on with a bystander vehicle on the Interstate 35E Service Road.
The bystander, 36-year-old Joel JusinoBergollo, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

On January 4, 2024, Beaumont police pursued a vehicle at high speed following a failed traffic stop. The vehicle collided with 83-year-old bystander Henry Guy Knobloch at the intersection of Gladys Avenue and W. Lucas Drive in Beaumont, resulting in his death. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.

On 12/28/2024, law enforcement officers responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance involving an armed individual. Deputies from Jasper County, Kirbyville Police officers, and a Texas DPS trooper arrived at a home off FM 82 in Jasper County. Upon arrival, officers discovered the individual engaged in a physical altercation with a 14-year-old outside the home. The individual, who was in a wheelchair, was ordered to stop and drop the weapon.

As the teen moved away, the individual pointed the weapon at officers. The officers opened fire, fatally shooting the individual. A Jasper County Justice of the Peace pronounced the individual dead at the scene.

Following standard procedure, the state trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. The incident is under investigation.
