On May 17, 2025, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in the name of Operation Lone Star attempted to stop a black Chevrolet Tahoe suspected of involvement in human trafficking near Riverside Drive and Mann Road in Laredo. The driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase toward the Rio Grande River by Tres Laredo’s Park. Upon reaching the river, multiple occupants exited the vehicle; some ran away, while others jumped into the water. One individual was rescued after struggling in the water. Another male individual went underwater and did not resurface. Texas game wardens later recovered his body. The incident is under investigation by the DPS Criminal Investigation Division and Texas Rangers, with cooperation from Mexican officials.

On 05/15/2025, Houston Police Department officers responded to a suicide-in-progress call at an apartment complex at 9255 West Sam Houston Parkway South. A woman told officers her brother was threatening self-harm. As officers approached, the man exited with a large knife and charged at them. Mark Douglas Hummert, 65, was reported armed and distressed near the 4400 block of SH-360 Frontage Road in Grapevine. Officers located him in a wooded area holding a handgun to his chest. On May 11, 2025, Mansfield Police officers identified a vehicle with a stolen license plate entering the city on FM 917. At approximately the 4000 block of West U.S. 287, the vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes before colliding with another vehicle. The driver was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. The front-seat passenger was transported by CareFlite to Methodist Central Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. All occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was confirmed stolen from the city of Grand Prairie.

On 05/08/2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a Castro County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a report of a person trespassing on a residential property located on Farm-to-Market Road 1055. Upon locating the man, identified as 34-year-old Lierme Reyes, an exchange of gunfire occurred between Reyes and the deputy. Both individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Reyes died from his injuries at the hospital. The deputy's injuries were non-life-threatening, and he is currently recovering. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is being conducted by the Texas Rangers.

The driver, 46-year-old Brett Osborne of Richmond, Texas, did not stop, Police escalated a high-speed chase through multiple jurisdictions in the greater Houston area. The pursuit concluded near the intersection of Community Reach Boulevard and Mound Road in Hockley, Harris County. When officers approached the stopped vehicle, they discovered Osborne had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No other individuals were injured during the incident.

The man attempted to flee on foot and fired a pistol at the officer, striking his protective vest. The security officer returned fire, striking the man. The man fired again, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The man was later found dead at the scene. The injured officer was transported to a hospital in stable condition. When he emerged from the backyard, officers issued multiple commands for him to drop the weapon. Watkins allegedly raised the firearm in a threatening manner toward the officers, prompting one officer to discharge their service weapon, striking Watkins. Officers rendered aid at the scene, and Watkins was transported to Medical City Denton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.The Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation into the incident, as is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in Texas.

On April 26, 2025, at approximately 10:17 p.m., a police pursuit in Houston, Texas, began a chase when Precinct 7 Constable deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding at over 90 miles per hour without headlights. After the vehicle exited the freeway and continued to drive, Precinct 3 Constable deputies resumed the pursuit. The man being chased ran a red light and sped at over 90 miles per hour without headlights until he lost control of the vehicle, crashing.

The occupants exited the vehicle on foot, and while a deputy turned around to pursue, one manwas struck by the pursuing patrol vehicle. The patrol vehicle struck the man, dragging him approximately 10 feet before becoming dislodged. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities responded to a report of Lacy discharging a firearm during a domestic dispute. On April 8, 2025, Bexar County deputies responded to a welfare check at a home on the 8000 block of Wayword Trail in Converse, Texas. A family member had requested help after the man was involved in a minor crash earlier that day. When deputies arrived, the man fired two shots at their vehicle. During their attempt to de-escalate the situation, he allegedly produced a firearm, prompting officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in his death. The Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the incident.

On 03/16/2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a San Antonio police officer conducted a traffic stop on Loop 410. The driver, Albert Lee, 43, exited the vehicle from the passenger side and fled on foot, jumping fences and running through alleys. During the chase, Lee allegedly pulled a knife. Police fired a Taser, but it was ineffective. Officers opened fire, killing him. A five-inch knife was recovered at the scene, and a firearm was found in Lee's vehicle. Lee had been on parole.

On 03/13/2025, McKinney police responded to a shooting at the Red Roof Inn on North Central Expressway. They found a 52-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. She was hospitalized in stable condition. Freddie Ware, 43, barricaded himself in his motel room. During negotiations, Ware threatened to shoot everyone. When officers deployed K-9 Azi into the room, Ware opened fire, killing the dog. On March 10, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Gregg County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of motorcycles racing near FM 2906 and State Highway 149 in Longview, Texas. Deputies located the motorcyclists, including 18-year-old Jaden Alexander Ferguson of Kilgore, and attempted a traffic stop at FM 349 and State Highway 322. Ferguson fled, leading deputies on a pursuit. The chase concluded at Dudley Road and County Road 188 when Ferguson failed to negotiate a turn, causing him to collide with a barbed wire fence and sustain a severe neck injury. Ferguson was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On 03/10/2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Harrison County deputies escalated a high-speed chase of Jason Thomas Hart, 29, of Kilgore, Texas. Deputies pursued Hart at speeds reaching up to 114 mph. The chase continued until Hart lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the walkway cover of the First Baptist Church Hallsville, located at 201 N Central Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police responded to the America’s Best Value Inn in McKinney to arrest a person wanted on warrants. Upon arrival, officers confronted the individual, who allegedly opened fire, killing a police K-9 named Vito. Police returned fire and killed the person at the scene. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.

On 03/05/2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Garland Police Department officers attempted to check on a driver, identified as 30-year-old Jose Andrew Ybarra, who was exhibiting unusual behavior along the eastbound service road of Interstate 30. As officers approached, Ybarra sped off, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, Ybarra exited his moving vehicle on the I-30 bridge over Lake Ray Hubbard and jumped into the lake. His body was later recovered, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

On February 24, 2025, at approximately 8:50 p.m., 34-year-old Jarmar Brooks was fatally shot by a San Jacinto County Sheriff's deputy at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood in Houston, Texas. Brooks, who had been arrested the previous night on multiple felony charges, including aggravated family violence assault, was receiving medical treatment before being booked into the San Jacinto County Jail. While under the deputy's supervision in the hospital room, Brooks, handcuffed at the wrists and with leg restraints, requested the deputy to loosen his leg restraints. As the deputy attempted to adjust the restraints, Brooks reportedly grabbed the deputy's vest collar, leading to a physical altercation. During the struggle, the deputy discharged his firearm multiple times, striking Brooks. Despite immediate medical attention, Brooks succumbed to his injuries. The Houston Police Department's Homicide Division and the Texas Rangers are conducting parallel investigations into the incident.

On February 24, 2025, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Garland Police Department officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the 100 block of West Wanda Drive in Garland, Texas. Upon arrival, officers were ambushed by 24-year-old Bernardo Mares, who fired upon them, injuring one officer. Mares fled the scene in a white pickup truck, leading officers to a second location where he again ambushed and fired at them. He then retreated to a relative's home on West Wanda Drive. As officers worked to evacuate the occupants, Mares emerged, pointing an object at them in a "shooter's stance." Officers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Mares. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The incident is under investigation by local authorities.
