On 05/30/2021, 26-year-old Jacquelynn Lachel Lee of Houston was killed with her sister, 21-year-old Aijulan Denay Lee, when a Dodge Challenger being pursued by a Houston police officer crashed into multiple vehicles on the East Freeway near Normandy Street.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., an HPD officer saw the Challenger traveling east on Interstate 10 at extremely high speed and activated emergency equipment while attempting to catch it. The pursuit continued for approximately two miles before the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

Near 12700 East Freeway, the Challenger collided with several vehicles, including the Toyota occupied by Jacquelynn, Aijulan and a third person. The Toyota caught fire following the collision.

The Toyota's driver was pulled from the burning vehicle, but Jacquelynn and Aijulan were killed at the scene. Four other people were taken to hospitals following the multi-vehicle crash.

Jacquelynn was born on 06/07/1994. Her funeral-home obituary identifies her as Jacquelynn Lachel Lee, 26, of Houston and specifically states that she died unexpectedly alongside her sister Aijulan on 05/30/2021.

On 05/01/2021 at approximately 10:50 p.m., Jose Ascencion Astrain Jr., 25, was driving a silver 2008 Ford Fusion north on West Avenue when San Antonio police officers in an unmarked vehicle attempted to stop him for a traffic violation that police did not publicly specify. Police said Astrain continued driving at high speed after officers activated their emergency equipment.

SAPD said the officers then turned off their emergency lights and ended the attempted pursuit. Astrain continued north on West Avenue, lost control in the 3800 block and fishtailed across the roadway into opposing traffic. His Ford Fusion collided with a brown pickup truck.
