On 08/25/2024, at approximately 4:11 a.m., Richardson Police Department officers responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Fair Oaks Drive after a woman called 911 and reported that her boyfriend, Emmanuel Blanco Cruz, 37, had assaulted her. During the 911 call, the woman said Cruz had come home intoxicated, struck her several times, and that after she made him leave, he returned with a baseball bat and began breaking windows. The call disconnected following a commotion.

Body-camera footage later released by the department shows the officer going to the rear of the residence, where Cruz could be seen inside the garage holding a large kitchen knife. The woman emerged from the residence and was directed by the officer toward the alley.

On 08/24/2024, Beaumont police shot and killed 42-year-old Manuel Arteaga while officers were responding to a reported disturbance in the 1800 block of Harriot Street in Beaumont, Texas. Police were dispatched at approximately 8:20 p.m.

On 08/21/2024, Damon Chambers, 25, was killed after crashing his motorcycle while Converse police pursued him from Converse into Schertz. Police reported that Chambers was riding recklessly and traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph before the fatal crash.

On 08/14/2024, San Antonio police went to Jesse Cohn's residence in the 8500 block of Wakefield Drive after investigators identified him as the man they alleged had shot and killed two dogs four days earlier. Police had obtained a search warrant and placed Cohn's residence under surveillance before officers approached the home to execute the warrant.

On 08/14/2024, Van Alstyne police received reports of a reckless driver traveling north on U.S. Highway 75. Officers located a pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Delio Lomas of Dallas and attempted a traffic stop. Instead of stopping, Lomas continued driving away while police pursued.
The pursuit continued into the Howe area. According to police, Lomas drove through the grassy median while attempting to re-enter the highway, lost control of the stolen pickup truck, and crashed. He was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Emergency responders transported him to Texoma Medical Center in Sherman, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators later determined the pickup truck had been stolen from McKinney. Authorities also reported that Lomas had been released from the Collin County Jail only hours before the pursuit began. Near the intersection of Loop 1604 and North Graytown Road, the motorcycle entered the intersection against a red light and collided with a pickup truck driven by 40-year-old Michael Husky, who was not involved in the pursuit. Husky and the motorcyclist both died from injuries sustained in the collision. The motorcyclist was later identified as Larry Nees.
After the crash, China Grove police announced that the motorcycle Larry Nees had been operating had been reported stolen to the San Antonio Police Department on 07/09/2024. Police also stated that Nees was wanted on an outstanding Bexar County drug-trafficking warrant. Deputy Todd Tipton, a 13-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office and SWAT operator, was serving the warrants when Aurell opened fire. Tipton was struck three times, including a graze wound to the neck and gunshot wounds to the arm and lower back. He was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital and released later that day.

On 08/06/2024, San Marcos Police responded to numerous 911 calls reporting a man on the Interstate 35 overpass above Posey Road throwing objects, yelling, and behaving erratically. On 08/02/2024, Pasadena Police responded to a 911 call from a woman in her 70s who reported that her husband, 67-year-old William Ritchie, was assaulting her inside their home in the 4400 block of Cypress Pond Court. On 08/05/2024, a Dallas police officer driving a marked patrol vehicle was traveling eastbound on Elam Road in the 8700 block while responding to a service call without emergency lights or siren activated. On 07/28/2024, a San Antonio Police Department patrol vehicle responding to an unrelated emergency call collided with a motorcycle at the intersection of West Southcross Boulevard and Huron Street.
According to investigators, 21-year-old Jesus Ervey Pacheco Ceniceros was riding a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Huron Street as the traffic signal was changing. On 07/24/2024, Fort Worth Police Department officers responded to a welfare check at an apartment in the 5600 block of Bellaire Drive South in Benbrook after receiving a report that 36-year-old Kenneth Brandon MacArthur Woods was experiencing a mental health crisis, was armed with a handgun, and was preventing his mother and several children from leaving the apartment.
According to investigators, officers heard multiple gunshots from inside the apartment. Woods then exited by jumping from a second-story window while still armed with a handgun. Police stated that officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. Multiple officers fired their weapons, striking Woods.
Woods was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Texas Rangers investigated the shooting. Following the incident, Woods' family and their attorneys publicly disputed the police account, called for the release of body-worn camera footage, and requested that the identities of the officers involved be made public. However, Preston's ex-girlfriend had a history of harassment and had previously kicked down his door with a friend, prompting Preston to call the police, according to his mother Yvonne Brown. Despite this, no action was taken.

On the night of the shooting, Preston's ex-girlfriend allegedly texted him repeatedly, but he didn't respond as he was with his new girlfriend. Yvonne Brown says someone called the police, claiming he was breaking into his home and was "armed and dangerous". On July 20, 2024, officers A. Luu and T. Huynh of the Houston Police Department responded to an armed disturbance call at a gas station in the 3100 block of South Dairy Ashford. Upon arrival, they encountered a 27-year-old male who had fled on foot and was later found at the intersection of Westheimer and Dairy Ashford. As the individual fled, he dropped a knife from his backpack, picked it up, and continued running toward a nearby cemetery. Officers Luu and Huynh pursued him and gave repeated commands to drop the weapon. The individual allegedly charged at the officers, still holding the knife, and both officers opened fire, striking and killing him. Despite efforts to administer first aid, the male was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital. The incident is being investigated by the Houston Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
