Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies went to a home on the 100 block of SW Alfred Street in Chehalis to arrest unknown child molester. Police alleged that he reached for a weapon. Lacey PD were called on a domestic violence call for a man and woman physically fighting in Lacey, WA. The woman left the residence, called the police who arrived and attempted to take the man into custody when he allegedly produced a handgun and fired the gun at officers. Police shot and killed him.

During a traffic stop for an undisclosed reason, Tacoma PD officers for unknown reasons shot and killed passenger Moses Portillo, 22, who was in the backseat of the car with a long-leg cast. Vancouver PD responded to a call about a man at a mobile home park with knives. Police state that he had set a fire to his home. Police fired 40 mm less lethal projectiles at him and finally shot and killed him. Algona police responded to reports shortly before 1 p.m. of a domestic violence situation involving an armed, suicidal man and three hostages. There was an existing no-contact order in effect between the man and at least one of the hostages. Police attempted to remove the hostages but were fired upon by the man. Officers retreated and called for backup. After several hours of negotiation attempts, the team concluded there was still a potential threat to the hostages. Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office located Kfin Karuo’s white Ford Expedition in a parking lot and attempted to arrest him for allegedly pointing a gun at a man on September 29. Karuo drove away, and deputies escalated a high-speed pursuit reaching 70 to 80 mph. Deputy Forrest Gonzalez performed a PIT maneuver, spinning Karuo’s SUV onto a berm. As Karuo began to climb out the driver’s window, Gonzalez saw a handgun in Karuo’s hand and ordered him to drop the weapon. Karuo pointed the gun at Gonzalez, who opened fire while backing away. Karuo ran toward a mobile home park, then turned and again pointed the gun at Gonzalez. Gonzalez fired more rounds. Deputy David Delin, who had arrived at the scene, also opened fire when Karuo appeared to square off. Deputies later found Karuo dead in a driveway with a loaded 9mm Glock in his hand. Gonzalez fired 10 rounds, and Delin fired 8. At least seven bullets struck a nearby occupied home, but no civilians were injured. The fatal shot struck Karuo in the torso. Deputy Forrest Gonzalez had previously been involved in two other fatal shootings.

Around 8:30 p.m., 911 received multiple calls reporting shots fired at an apartment complex in the 7300 block of 150th Street Southwest in Lakewood, Washington. Officers arrived at the scene at 8:36 p.m., and by 8:39 p.m., an officer reported that someone was shooting at them. During the confrontation, officers shot and killed Spencer Allan Clayborn.

On August 6, 2021, Zidany Amado, 22, drowned while attempting to elude officers from the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office. On August 5, 2021, around 5:45 p.m., Seattle Police responded to a home in the 10000 block of 21st Avenue Southwest to serve an arrest warrant for Isaiah Hinds, who was wanted in connection with a homicide in Seattle. Officers used a PA system from outside the house to instruct Hinds to surrender. When Hinds exited the home, allegedly armed with a handgun, an exchange of gunfire ensued between him and the police. Hinds was shot and killed during the confrontation.

On 07/15/2021, Kent Police officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle driven by a 16-year-old male who refused to stop. Police escalated a chase through Kent at very high speed until the vehicle struck another car on Pacific Highway South near Kent Des Moines Road. The collision killed a man at the scene. The 16-year-old driver, who was wearing an ankle monitor at the time, was taken into custody.

The call involved Michael J. Petit, who had reportedly assaulted a 72-year-old family member. The female victim informed officers that Petit physically assaulted her, discharged a handgun, and at one point pointed it at her, pulling the trigger, though the firearm did not discharge.
Law enforcement attempted to establish communication with Petit over several hours, urging him to surrender. Shawn Michael Roy Montoya reportedly left the scene in a white pickup truck. When an officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Montoya continued driving. An officer used his vehicle to disable Montoya’s truck. As officers approached the truck, they heard a gunshot. Police reported that Montoya died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

On May 23, 2021, Dion Johnson, 46, was suspected of shooting two individuals, including his young son, in SeaTac, Washington. A man identifying himself as the man called 911 to turn himself in. On May 12, 2021, around 5 p.m., a 52-year-old man was reportedly barricaded inside a vehicle near 173rd Street South and A Street South in Spanaway, Washington. On April 17, 2021, around 3:30 a.m., Spokane Police responded to a report of a suspected car prowling in the 500 block of South Cannon Street. A victim reported that Vadim A. Grishchuk had broken into his vehicle and pointed a gun at him when confronted. When officers arrived, Grishchuk pointed the gun at police after being given commands and allegedly fired a shot. Officer Brandon Roy shot and killed Grishchuk during the encounter.

On April 12, 2021, Blane Peterson, 29, died from a gunshot wound following a police pursuit and standoff in Spokane, Washington. On March 24, 2021, officers from the Yakima Police Department and Yakima County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an assault at a Taco Bell around 5:10 p.m. A 22-year-old woman informed police that her 41-year-old former boyfriend had assaulted her and stolen her car. She reported that he had shown up at her workplace, requested a ride, and after she agreed, he assaulted her, placed her hands in zip ties, and forced her to pull into a parking lot. She managed to escape and seek help at a nearby Taco Bell. Shortly after, officers located the stolen vehicle, leading to a pursuit. A Yakima County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle by ramming it, but the chase continued until the man eventually stopped. The man then pulled out a gun and fatally shot himself.

On March 10, 2021, Chandler Radley, 22, was involved in a pursuit with the Washington State Patrol. After wrecking his vehicle near Harlan Landing, he fled from the scene on foot and went missing. Several days later, Radley was found dead in the Naches River. His death was determined to be the result of drowning.

Around 2:30 a.m. on March 9, 2021, Grant County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Deputies observed a person acting suspiciously, who then entered a vehicle and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle, and during the chase, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip and crash into a yard. Danielle C. Shockey, a passenger in the vehicle, was killed in the crash.

On February 23, 2021, around 1:15 p.m., a man met with a woman in the courtyard of a housing services program in Seattle's Central District. The man allegedly made threatening statements before pulling out a gun and firing at the woman, who managed to escape without injury. After the attempted shooting, the man fatally shot himself at the scene.

On February 16, 2021, around 9:20 p.m., Port of Seattle officers contacted the Seattle Police Department regarding Derek J. Hayden, a man in mental health crisis with a kitchen knife. When officers arrived, Hayden fled down Alaskan Way. PSPD officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by following Hayden. They also employed a less-lethal 40mm launcher that fires foam-tipped projectiles, but this method was unsuccessful in subduing him. SPD officers, including Officers Cassidy Butler and Willard Jared, arrived. Both officers discharged their firearms, killing Hayden.

On February 9, 2021, around 9:15 p.m., Seattle Police officers responded to reports of a shooting near 24th Avenue South and South Massachusetts Street. Upon arrival, officers heard multiple gunshots being fired. Gregory Taylor emerged from around the corner of the parking lot of the Northwest African American Museum, raised his firearm, and began shooting at the officers. Police shot and killed him during the confrontation.

On February 4, 2021, 30-year-old Jenoah Donald was pulled over by Clark County sheriff's deputies in Hazel Dell, Washington, for a defective taillight. During the stop, deputies attempted to remove Donald from his vehicle, leading to a physical altercation. Deputy Sean Boyle fired two shots, striking Donald once in the head. Donald was unarmed and died on February 12, 2021, after being on life support for over a week.
An external prosecutorial review concluded that the deputies acted in good faith and declined to file criminal charges. In February 2022, Donald's family filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against Clark County, alleging excessive force and civil rights violations. On May 14, 2025, the Clark County Council approved a $3.5 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit. The county denied liability but stated the settlement would provide closure. Donald’s family expressed that no amount of money could replace their loss but hoped the case would lead to better training and accountability.

On February 4, 2021, around 7:41 p.m., deputies from the Clark County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Northeast 68th and Northeast 2nd Avenue in Hazel Dell, Washington. During the traffic stop, one of the deputies shot Jenoah Donald (also known as Donald D. Jonah). Donald was transported to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition. His family was informed that there was nothing more doctors could do, and they began preparations for his funeral.
